Is anyone else frustrated?

The Question

Recommended Posts

If someone wants to go ahead and give me a list of all those number 2 WR's remaining be my guest.

And if your answer is Funchess don't even bother.

We need a legit 2 and missed the boat, again. To draft a WR at 8 would be drafting for need over value

KB didn't regress but he's still not a #1.   His rookie year was filled with garbage time stats and last year the guy was soft and made mental mistakes all season.   I don't blame KB, he's what he was in college and what all the scouts knew, a big guy who uses his size in the wrong way that sometimes uses it the right way and makes some nice mismatch catches.  He's just not a #1 and isn't the target Cam desperately needs.   Ironically after never having a true #2 for Smith all those years we now have a couple great #2's but no #1.     Funchess is also what he was in college, a TE playing WR.    Except I doubt he can block.

Look, I'm not sure who we should have signed, if anyone, but this "get them in the draft" argument is silly because this TEAM, under any GM, has never developed a WR into a true #1.    Smith was lightning in a bottle and past that, nothing.    DG also hasn't been good at running back choices either.     There are still some WR's out there that could help us though, just not top tier ones.    Patterson would be great here for return and to open up the field, for instance.   So let's just chill out for a bit and see what happens.

If anything, I'd rather have a TRUE #2 TE to pair with Olsen out there.

Muhsin Muhammad says "Hey."

You don't go overspend on shitty free agents. That is what garbage organizations do. Reference Jacksonville. This is a decent WR draft, better to gamble there than overspend on a guy that you know isn't a #1.

Thank you! I am actually happy as well. After years of absolutely nothing happening for days in FA, G-man takes action on day 1! LT was our biggest needs and he signed one of the top prospects out there. Sure I was hoping he'd be cheaper, but the reality of the situation was that the deal isn't that bad. Whitworth and Okung got bigger deals and Okung is no better than Kalil. My only concern is that Kalil stays healthy.

G-man also grabbed a slot receiver, arguably our second biggest need! Sure, I have never heard of him, but six teams were chasing him, so I have to assume he's got skills, right?

He's retained our D-line (also, rumor has it that Pep is on his way home). Once he addresses our secondary, we really can go into the draft looking for BPA.

PFF had him rated the #29 free agent OT based on 2016 ratings, FWIW.

I don't trust PFF, never have. I looked at sprttrac, who had him at either 4 or 5 best available (I don't recall, and they have updated since he's no longer a FA, per them). I am obviously concerned over the money and his health, but we really didn't have much of a choice. At least G-man's doing something.

You always have a choice when you hand out a contract that big to a player that bad. It isn't just PFF that had him rated very lowly. I haven't found many sources other than his brother and maybe his mom that considered him a very desirable option at that price.

We could have done better than that, IMO. I don't know what Gettleman wanted but I really, REALLY hope that wasn't it. TBH, I am not sure he seems to be a great evaluator of OL talent as a whole.

I mean, yeah.  We're fans.  And if the team sucks (which we do), people will be unhappy.  Sorry we're not all sunshine pumpers when it comes to our team that has NEVER had back to back winning seasons.

You, and sunshine pumpers are never going to be confused for each other. If you think negative thoughts, negative things tend to happen.

There is a yuge philosophical difference between being frustrated over the past, and being hopeful for the future.

Up in here? Most folks are stuck in the past, expecting the same ol, same ol. FA is less than a day old. The draft is still a month away. Yet, you have folks all a twitter because they just know we are going to suck again.

Yea, that's being realistic.

Try being optimistic around here. You get treated like a red headed step child with a brain disorder.

We talked about filling needs in free agency so we go after our wants in free agency. If Pep does come home, other than a safety and TE what exactly are our needs other than depth. William's is our starting RT, and while we could use more WRs for the slot that can easily be handled in the draft or perhaps a guy like Byrd can emerge. The draft is deep with running backs.  Otherwise we are looking for depth which you don't find in the first week of free agency. What am I missing?

I would argue that considering Oher's status and the possibility of Remmers not being on the team, we need another O-lineman. Fluker might work considering that he could play either guard or tackle (in theory). I'm still not sold on Williams. For all the flack Remmers gets, his PFF grade was higher than Williams'.

God, I hate when BS like this is spread. Go look at the game logs. His rookie year stats were not filled with garbage time stats. Not even close. Only one of his solid games was in a blowout, the rest wins/very close games. I've refuted that with real stats and actually looking into it multiple times instead of just saying what you thought you heard from somewhere. His rookie year was great, period.

Also, it's been posted in here a few times as well that Proehl himself said that Benjamin wasn't fully recovered when they though he was. He had a phenomenal camp and a great first couple games. I'm not going to make excuses for everything, but I think he wasn't fully back and he went too hard too soon. First year back from ACL tears outside of Peterson are always rougher and we let him do too much too soon. Look at the last few weeks when he seemed to get his groove back.

Last note, he sure as fug didn't seem soft in the last game when he stiffed armed Grimes. I think KB is a #1 WR and will be fully healthy and have a great season.

Wrong.   He had a lot of big catches when the game was lost and we were chucking it.     Sorry, try again.   I'm not saying he's not a good WR, but he's not a #1.

Lets not even get into his holding penalties.

I actually think we are having a pretty good offseason so far, aside from that awful Kalil contract(the $25 million guaranteed makes it dreadful, regardless of structure).

If we really do sign Peppers and a couple of other guys at need positions, we might be set up to have a very nice draft. We just need all these assholes ahead of us to stop filling their QB needs.
