With everything we know right now, 2015 Oher is best, but Kalil could easily quickly chance my mind. And obviously can't count on Oher so making a play in FA was necessary. Really hope Kalil works out and Oher gets back healthy to be our RT. Then extend Norwell and Turner and we've got a dominant line for years to come and Cam is kept healthy and upright.

Oher's 2015 performance was better than any of the above. That 2015 performance is about as relevant as Jeff Otah's 08 performance now. So out of all the names mentioned he was the best option. Only time will tell if he ends up being  a good or horrible value. But as Panther fans we should all rally behind the guy.

On the surface that looks like a monster deal for someone who has not exactly served up a compelling reason for someone to sign him, other than desperation. Thats actually true. However sometimes if you don't play your cards right in the previous years, you are forced into this type of move or you can stand pat with Remmers and get fired next year.

Our options this year were go after Whitworth, Okung or Kalil.

Whitworth signed for less and has the best resume' by far. However he would just be another Gettleman band aid and goes against his your never one player away philosophy.

Okung will likely get a lot more money and a better deal for himself elsewhere. Okung is the better player based off their careers so far. However its plausible Gettleman did not want to chase after Okung and miss Kalil in the process.

Considering we couldn't have even contacted Okung until about 15 minutes ago because he does not have an agent, Gettleman hedged his bets and played it safe.

I have been very critical of Gettleman in the past and I am still not sold him.I actually dislike him over all.  However I take everything into consideration before throwing out praise or blasting the guy. Plus he's not going anywhere so I will root for him to do the right thing. He did okay in 13, all things considered and killed it in 15. It's offseason like 2014 and 2016 that make me dislike the guy. That plus I get sickened by those who would applaud him and justify it even if he gave Remmers that same deal. Those posters exist somehow.

Right now we know that for 2017 season, we had a shot at 2 upgrades (Kalil and Okung). We didn't get the one I wanted but thats a dangerous game to play. Go all in on Okung and his contract demands cant be met by us or we are outbid. In the interim Kalil could have signed back with Minnesota.

So for right now 2017 offseason looks much better than 2014 and 2016 did. Still a ways to go before making any firm judgements but right now I am cool with everything he's done thus far. Not saying I love it but just taking it all in right now and waiting to see what else unfolds.
