Matt Kalil contract details

Recommended Posts

Kahlil is gonna get around $11 million a year.  Its around what tackles are going for in this market. What do you not get.

Guys like Robert Woods who 12 total touchdowns as a #2 receiver in 4 years (3 a year for you genisues) just got 5 year $39 million contract PFF grade 73.2 (Ginn's last year was 72.5)

Kenny Britt just got a 4 year $32.5 million contract his PFF grade was 76.5 (30 total touchdowns in 8 seasons)

Garcon just got 3 year deal that pays $23 million over first 2 seasons, first yaer is $16 million a year! averages 4 touchdowns a year.

These are just examples to my point... You have guys who have been OK at their respective positions and have had below average stats getting PAID!

I know what you will say these are Wide receivers.. honestly first 3 ridiculous contracts that came to mind.  Everyone is getting these lucrative deals.  $11 million for a tackle isn't that much these days.

Or we could have just offered him $8million, let him resign with the Vikings and had to resign Remmers for $9 million a year.

Can't make everyone happy.

I like the signing.

Because they let their happiness in life be determined by things totally out of their control, like a child might.

I don't think that's a fair generalization to place on everyone who's "panicking", but it probably does apply to some.

We had to do this and I'm fine with it.  You always over spend in FA and Gettleman hasn't done this really since he has been here.  If Kalil is the starter for that contact it will be a bargin.  Every contract is a risk.

The only thing relevant here is the 25 million guaranteed and the cap number going into year 3 when we extend or play it out before releasing him after 3 years.

This isn't the idiot Marty Hurney type contract. We're going to begood to go.

It must be depressing being you

Says the guy who is more concerned with what random people on the internet say about certain topics than the actual topics themselves.

Might be time to look in the mirrah

Sheesh...shouldn't have consulted any Viking fans on this one. Says he repeatedly has battled knee injuries and that they may even be chronic. Mentioned he doesn't seem to care about football and that it is a 'high risk, low upside signing'. Meh. Hasn't offered much in the run game and is streaky in pass protection.

i seem to recall similar musings by titans fans when the panthers signed oher.  turned out pretty well in '15

Yeah... most of my buddies are Vikes fans and basically just laughed and thanked me for taking him.

The "doesn't seem to care about football" may be a blessing in disguise. Maybe he was just unhappy in Minny? There has to be something for Gettleman to feel confident enough to drop 25mill guaranteed into this guys lap right?

So maybe he's convinced Ryan that he'll be happy here combined with him finally being healthy and he resorts back to his rookie form?

We didn't have much of a choice.  We HAD to do something at LT, and there aren't a whole lot of LT's out there floating around.

Fingers crossed he is worth the dough.

Now that Cam will have time to throw, who will he throw to with Ted gone?  :(

Time for KB and Funch to step it up to G. Olsen level this season!

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
