OJ Howard: The Beast from Bama

Understand your point but really don't agree with it. Olsen has never been the Me first player. Do you think TD got upset when we got Shaq? Do you think KK and Star got upset when we got Butler?
Your theory doesn't really fit the MO of Olsen IMO.

The thing with Shaq is different because we technically start 3 linebackers so drafting one doesn't take any snaps away from TD. The Butler thing is a fair comparison I guess but it wouldn't shock me if KK wasn't a little pissed because of it. I mean his shot at a long term payday from us definitely took a hit because we drafted Butler.

And again I am not saying Olsen will get pissed I am saying I hope the front office just talks to him about it first as a respect thing just to be sure he is on board. Given how much this team obsesses over the locker room chemistry I don't see why they wouldn't just take the time to call Olsen and be certain it's all good before making a move that could be seen as trying to replace him.

Greg is only 31 he could realistically play at a high level for another 4+ years(Tony Gonzalez played at a high level until age 37), so it isn't like we need a replacement anytime soon. We just need a wingman, and top 10 is a lot more than a wingman usually.

Top salary for a TE is far cheaper than top salary for WR. If we can get a two TE set going we have the potential to have the most elite TE group ever assembled between Olsen and Howard for a long, long time potentially. The match up nightmares would be ridiculous.

Howard-Olsen has the same potential as Tim Duncan/David Robinson.

Not that I think Olsen would be the type of player to get pissed off by something like this but I would only be ok with it if he gave it his blessing. Because taking a TE top ten even if you plan to use a lot of two TE sets would be a huge warning shot to arguably our best player on offense.

Greg Olsen is 32. He is mortal despite his Asgardian visage. He won't be around but a few more years. And if you watched the NFL Combine, Greg was doing commentary with Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock. Greg was GUSHING about the potential of Howard, Leggett and even the injured Butt. He was super excited about how well they were performing, athletically. He was talking about how this TE class could be the best we've seen ever.

Greg Olsen just became the first TE in history to record 3 consecutive seasons of 1000+ seasons. His job is secure. He knows that. We know that. Everyone knows that. There are no warning shots to shoot.

I was watching one of those draft breakdown videos of OJ Howard, and I think he could really should be a MAJOR candidate at 8.  If we could run a base two TE set with Olsen and Howard, then have Benji, then either Funchess or FB/H-Back, we could do some real damage in the run and intermediate passing game.

This is a deep draft for both TEs and RBs....  Should be good for us!

You're acting like Greg is in his early 20s. Dude is over 30 already I say we're lucky if we get 4 more seasons from him. And you can't expect him to keep performing at an elite level in his mid 30s going into late 30s if he plays that long. If we win a Super Bowl I bet he retires right then.

With Jacksonville getting Campbell and Church I think they have their sights set on Fournette. I think the Titans will take Jamal Adams.  The Jets Marshon Lattimore. The Chargers Hooker. It depends on what the Bears and 49ers do, if they decide to take QBS or go with BPA. Also I want to make sure that if Jonathan Allen drops that the Panthers already did their homework on his shoulders. Besides Fournette, I think OJ Howard offers the most impact for this offense. We have a complete TE that can block and line up inside or outside and run away from defenders. We need to put fear into players like Dion Jones and Lavante David that love eating Ed Dickson's lunch.

We can have Greg Olsen play the same role that Jason Witten plays for the Cowboys at age 34 (will be 35 at start of season), work underneath and move the chains while Howard works the seams and crossing routes

If Fournette and the usual suspects aren't there I'd trade down with the browns or the eagles to pick up Ross or Howard. I bet one of the premier talents are going to be at 8 though if two or more QBs go before us. If there's no QBs that is our nightmare senario . The only pick I'd actually be upset with is Dalvin Cook or a CB not named Lattimore

Yeah, so it's exactly like Robinson/Duncan...
