And they still had a better season than us last year, oddly.

Well, yeah.  When you have a Hall of Fame QB, you are always going to be at minimum semi-competitive.  It isn't a reflection of their roster constructing abilities because they would be lost without Brees.

Best case scenario, he returns to rookie form.  He has a ton of talent and playing next to a great interior could help him out a lot

I can't stress this part enough

Minnesota's line is like a line full of Remmers and Byron Bells

If Kalil is healthy enough just to play decent with the talent on our line that's enough

This is the first yr Gman has had the money to purchase a LT.  Not many starting LT's would have come in years past on a 3 million per year contract, or lower.

Terrible year to need a LT, not much out there in the draft or FA.  It has been said hundreds of times, hundreds of times.

So Gman took a chance with a young LT, which means 4-5 year deal.  Whitworth would have been a 2 year deal at much more per season.  Not much else we could have done that would have been any better.

The DUMB in here is tremendous

Why would I look?  You are the one saying he should have drafted someone.  Back it up.

Morgan Moses isn't an LT and Cyrus has started 7 games the last 2 years.  But you are right, definitely would have been better than taking Benjamin and Ealy.

Because you posed the question.  Both of them graded out as among the best at their positions at different points last year  - and I'm well aware Moses is a RT.

Is Moses better than Remmers?

Would Cyrus not have more starts here among the worst tackle groups in the league?

Lol...  but, if you are happy with ignoring the position protecting your entire franchise until you finally have to address it by paying double the amount per year you paid Oher for a guy who has been worse than Oher, so be it.

It'll be curious to see what the contract is and how it's structured. Maybe it's structured in a way that it's kind of like a "prove it" deal if it doesn't work out in year 1.

Rather it be structured where we can bail if it doesn't work.

I'm only going by the reported 3/30. Even Jeremy stated he thought it was that much.

Fair enough, but until we know how much is garunteed I can't say thats a bad contract.

5 teams have over 58m in cap space. Do we want to get in a bidding war with those teams for guys that we don't know that we have a chance on or go after and show interest in the guy we know we have a better chance at getting?

Thank you for the sanity.  Exactly.  We had an edge in negotiations with Matt Kalil (his brother Ryan) that we don't have with other FA LTs.  I like that Kalil is only 27,  If our coaches and playing with Ryan can cause him to improve, it's quite a good thing.  I don't see that there was obviously any other tackle that we had a high likelihood of landing.  Kalil was probably our best shot, and even so, we probably had to pay WAY more than DG wanted to pay.  But this was a bullet we had to bite.

We have a hall of fame QB who just came off of an MVP season when he got headhunted behind a swiss cheese OL whom let other teams cheap shot him.  And I dont think we were competitive.
