Panthers interested in Okung

Not just the players it seems. Would be a definite upgrade but for a big commitment at $10-12M/year I'd rather pass. For a tad less or a short deal, then yeah. People forget that he has a long history of injury problems and though he played all 16 last year, they could come back anytime. And he wasn't all that good last year anyways. Sure would be interesting and would give me hope for the offense though.

Troy Renck of Denver 7 reports free agent LT Russell Okung is drawing interest from the Panthers and Giants.
That is in addition to the Broncos, who have not closed the door on bringing Okung back despite declining to pick up his option last month. Both landing spots make a lot of sense. The Panthers have to find a replacement for Michael Oher, whose career may be over due to concussions, and the Giants are likely looking to move 2015 first-rounder Ereck Flowers to the right side. Okung could command $10-12 million per year on his next deal. Mar 8 - 1:04 PM

It's not that much of an overpay considering cap increases and demand of the position.   Also you know, the fact that Cam is getting killed out there.   Ignoring the position for so many years is going to force us to overpay a bit.   If you ever overpay, you do it on your LT.    Get this done.

I would've rather gave Wagner that 9 mil. Personally Ive always believe that Okung was overrated.

Even if, he's still better than any option we have at LT and we can't have another season of Cam getting violated all game.

    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
    • She kicked ass. Obviously not the same but it’s an absolute pleasure to see this band live. What a great evening.
