Panthers interested in Okung

I'm not suggesting to throw anything out. Your comment was about having faith in our front office because they hit on a previous FA. Well they have also missed on free agents.  You need to look at the full body of work, not just the information that suites your POV.

True or False: the last time the FO signed an oft injured, older FA to play Left Tackle, they made a good decision?

t let's not waste money on marginal, named players.

scared money doesn't make no money my friend.   The money has to be spent on OT.  Roll the dice.  if you crap out you crap out but maintaining the status quo and not bringing someone in is effectively saying that we learned nothing from last year.

what more could you want?

better value.   I think stew is going to continue to do the job he's usually done.  I don't see fournette as a head and shoulders upgrade that warrants the #8 pick.

I disagree with blindly rolling the dice.  You have to spend it wisely and well.  Last year, we though Oher had turned a career corner.  The concussion has been a tragic surprise.  Throwing money at a wall until it sticks to a quality OT is great way to waste it.

If the Panthers don't bring in some other type of LT candidate, then we know that Cam is going to be hitting IR this year, soon.

Continuing the craps analogy honestly any move made with any money is technically a "roll of the dice"  I'm not saying to put all your chips on hard 8 or back door little joe I'm saying put your money on a proven 7 or 11 and help your own odds.   If you're agreeing that we need to bring in an LT then what are we really disagreeing about yanno

Well, seeing what's happening with okung, looks like we'll be opening the pocketbook anyway.

My point was let's not get too excited for the named OTs.  I'd they were that good, wouldn't their teams want to keep them?  Why does a quality LT end up a FA?

Like I said yesterday the Hawks and Broncos recently won Super Bowls and it cost them to either build or retain those players.  Both would take him back for less than he'll make on the open market.

The same reason quality anything ends up becoming FA's.  Why did peyton manning become a FA? or Adrian Peterson? Josh Norman?  I mean anyone really.   Just differences between the vision of the FO and the demands of the player.   Some teams could have faith in their depth or have been preparing for the inevitable departure of their LT/RT players in general.   Just happens.   Doesn't mean they're *can't miss* players or that they're *terrible* just means we have to do our work and pick up someone that is going to fix the problems we have.
