Panthers interested in Okung

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Oher was seen as garbage in his last season with the Ravens. YET the FO and Coaches saw something on tape that told them he could preform at LT. He played above average for the Panthers after coming off an injured couple seasons in Baltimore. The FO has proven they can spot someone who can excel in our system. Even if YOUR first reaction is a cringing one, FO has earned the right to receive the some faith.

If they think Okung can play, we gotta believe them. Gman has spent 3 years digging us out of a cap hole. He's not gonna throw all that away on a bad contract. He will strike a balance.

Really? I think they lost a lot of that faith last year.

Okung is a Texas native who went to Oklahoma State and is reportedly a devout Christian.  On the surface only, that would appear to make us a better fit than the others listed.  Nevermind football fit, cost of living, etc.

Can't win every season. The entire Oline was shuffled all season. FO can't help that Shula is an ass clown, either. No off season is perfect and you have to make tough decisions. Let's see multiple, back to back failures before we toss the baby out with the bath water.

This is the frustrating part with the huddle sometimes.   All of 2016 was spent eviscerating the FO for not attacking the OL issue.  Sack after sack after pressure after pressure after late hit we sit here as a fan base banging the fuging table for an OL.  What happens when free agency/draft time comes up?  Amnesia.  OL is STILL the problem and the #1 issue with the team.  We're talking about taking fournette at 8?  HHAHAHA.  we're talking about trying to sign DJAX/ whining when NYG sign marshall and we're wanting to sign barry church?  big fuging deal!  we.   need. to.  fix. the line.   that's it.

I'm all for Fournette, some things you just can't pass on, there are 4-5 players I'd like for us to take at #8 and none of them are o-line.

what I'd like to see is. RB, OL, OL with our top 3, or DL, OL, OL or DL/RB, OL, S

Im not as crazy about our need for a safety as a top 10 pick, I've seen too many SS(which is what we will be drafting for) that were middle of the pack that did just fine, Chris Harris, Mike Mitchel, come to mind. You have a to ask if they are a splurge or a need. And a safety top 10 is a splurge and I don't care if they are the second coming of Ed Reed.

eh,  I know it's an unpopular opinion but I'm not sold on fournette.  If we still had shockey back in the day?  yeah..  but right now we don't do a lot of jumbo sets/i-formation sets.  I'm not sure how he runs out of the shotgun.  I agree with your statement with SS.  I'd rather pick a DE at 8 over a SS or a FS,  but if lattimore was there at 8 I wouldn't mind him at all.

I can't appreciate what @Devin says about not addressing the OL, but I am tempering the expectation that these FA OTs are going to be some kind of magical upgrade.  Remember, these guys were let go for a reason:  they weren't performing well on their teams.

Okung has a lengthy injury history, almost as long as Clady's.  He's also under-performed most of his career.  Maybe a change in setting would help?  Why not last year?

In this, we have to trust in Dave.  I am certainly worried about the LT position.  I don't even think the Left Handed Byron Bell can save us.  I don't see the smarts in investing $10-12 million a year in a guy who's kind of severely under-performed.  Is this agent talk or real NFL talk?

We do need a legit LT to keep Cam upright, but let's not waste money on marginal, named players.

That's why you go after Whitworth.

I'm not suggesting to throw anything out. Your comment was about having faith in our front office because they hit on a previous FA. Well they have also missed on free agents.  You need to look at the full body of work, not just the information that suites your POV.

Got to wonder if he's going to go back to Cincy.  He's also 35.  How much does he want to leave where he's been comfortable?  Will be pull a Charles Johnson effectively?

I'd pursue, but I wouldn't expect magic.

He's a power North South runner, he will do just fine, I laugh when people worry about how he will play in the shotgun, he's the best running back in the draft, what more could you want?

I'm just hoping he's still out there tomorrow night. If he's available, he should be option 1,2 and 3.
