TE Adam Shaheen

Of all the TE prospects at the Combine, he likely helped himself the most. Coming from a small school, he showed that he belonged according to Mike Mayock and others. Honestly, I've seen some writers say that he's possibly a day two pick, but more than likely he will probably go early on day three.

He's massive! Plus, he's fast and fluid for a man of his size. Some believe that with the right coaching that he can make his mark known as a pass catcher. Now his blocking needs some work---you'd expect more from such a mountain of a TE, but you'd also expect him to be a little more raw.

If the Panthers brass sees him as projecting well to the pros, with the Combine that Shaheen had---testing well as compared to his peers---don't be surprised if Gettleman pulls the trigger a little earlier than people suspect ( ala Bradberry).

This. The smaller the school/conference, the more the combine matters.

Give me that George Kittle out of Iowa over this kid.

Shaheen was pretty slow. And while big, they say he struggles as a blocker

Yes. Shaheen's good and i wouldn't complain but we want a guy that will compliment Olsen.

NFL.com > " Big, fast and athletic, Shaheen will immediately interest teams who are looking for size and traits. He's a poorer blocker than what might be expected for a player with his frame, but he's also a much more dangerous pass catching target. The jump in competition will be substantial and teams will expect him to become a more consistent blocker, but he's a pass catching tight end in a Y-tight end's body. Shaheen has starting potential with an ability to impact a passing game early in his career. "

Contrast that with Kittle:

CombineWalter Football>  " George Kittle, TE, Iowa up2.gif
George Kittle was seen as a quality blocking tight end heading into the combine, but based on how he performed in Indianapolis, teams might think that he can be more than that. Kittle ran a very impressive 4.52 40 at 6-4, 247. He also posted an 11-0 broad jump and a 35-inch vertical. Kittle will certainly have front offices searching for his tape, and he may have entered mid-round consideration."

I would still go with Shaheen, his blocking can be improved by coaching. He should slim down to 265, has the size to be an effetive in-line blocker reminds me of Travis Kelce.

He could be a Travis Kelce type TE.

Some are comparing him to Gronkowski.  Do anyone know anything about him.  Should we pick him or should we pass on him in the later rounds.

Definitely warrants more look, maybe we send coach to his pro day or bring him in for a workout.

Size isn't everything, it's really easy to say he can be coached up.  If that's the case you would go for the workout physical freaks at the top every time. There are Plenty of guys who are big but just doesn't not have it in them to be aggressive and block,  see the Jimmy Grahams, JuliusThomas etc. He was a high school basketball player who bulked up and played college football.

Kittle is a straight up football player. Son of a Iowa team captain OL.  Kid has it in him to be a football player.  Aggressive blocking who plays like he means business, blocking guys better than some 300 lb OL (if you watch what little game film of his that's up on the internet, there's times where he's pancaked DEs).  His athletic about is no slouch either.  People on here are having a Boner over "that Freak athlete Njoku"

but comparing Kittle to him the are really about the same.

Njoku 6'4 246 4.64 133 broad 37.5 vert bench 21

Kittle 6'4 247 4.52 132 broad 35 vert bench 18

you can teach a man to block...you cant teach a man to have great hands ...great feet ...

But do you want the average blocker who 'might' improve with coaching, or the guy who fits our immediate needs but is not as flashy? Even if Shaheen lived up to that big play potential which is an if as a small school guy, it simply takes targets away from Olsen. And you still have no blocker unless you want Olsen to do that. Do we actually need 2 pro-bowl tight ends competing for targets?

It's not like Kittle has bad hands.  As shown in video above making that 1 hander.  Only thing he has on Kittle is he's about 20 lbs heavier. And it's easier to teach someone to catch than to play and block with heart.  Some guys can't cut it and just timid, again example Jimmy Graham.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
