Securing our guy

Would you all be open to moving up to either #5 overall to nab Fournette/Hooker? I know Gettleman is sold on both guys. The odds of one of them being taken at 6 or 7 seem pretty high, and it wouldn't cost that much to do it. I have been hearing rumblings about it, but I am skeptical to believe Gman would ever trade up. If both guys are gone there, our options dwindle quite a bit, and you would be hard pressed to find another blue chip player at that spot.

Stay at 8 or trade down. The talent is deep in this draft. We may miss out on a Hooker but get Justin Evans, Obi, or Eddie Jackson. We may miss out on Fournette but get McCaffrey, Perine, or Kamara. I trust the depth of this draft to allow for quality and quantity to link up.

Verge, what is you source telling you this year about FA and the draft?

Verge is the annual announcer of sources with very little to validate such claims.

It's kind of like my stance with Christianity. I'd like to believe, but what evidence have we seen?

I've seen him nailed the Shaq Thompson and Vernon Butler picks.

Interest in Butler was everywhere in the week leading up to the draft. And I also remember hearing we were higher on Shaq than other teams. Many outlets weren't buying it, but it ended up being true. I am not saying I know Verge doesn't have sources. but I haven't seen anything groundbreaking in terms of differentiation of "insiders" posting online with the Rapaports and such of the world.

He called DJ Hayden being a top 15 pick when there was really no hype for him leading up to the draft. That year he said a few things that happened.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
