Bersin is back

Captain Morgan

Eh this doesn't really move the needle for me. Guy does a lot for our team. He's nothing special but usually produces when his name is called.

More interested to see who we bring in at the WR position that WASN'T on the team last year.

I guess people forget one year contracts with little or no guaranteed money happen all the time in the spring getting ready for camp. He has been cut and placed on the practice squad multiple times. He won't be here in August if other guys step up. He didn't make the roster yet.

Is that a white joke? I haven't ready anything to suggest he coaches any one up. He is retained because he knows the offense and performs to the expectation level set for him by the coaching staff.

White does not automatically mean coach. See Christian McCaffrey.

Uh, no idea why you had to bring race into this. He's the longest tenured WR on the team and he probably knows the offense as well as the coaches at this point. He's well respected by Cam Newton (who has nicknamed him "The Professor") and others on the Panthers. He's not an obvious contributor but I'm certain he makes contributions off the field or else this guy would be long gone because he's not an NFL receiver talent wise.

Because typically when you have a 4th/5th WR. They are a special teams ace or a young guy with upside. I think Bersin deserves a training camp spot but if the team drafts a receiver in the first 4 rounds and a FA I don't expect him to make the final 53.

And this is my second point. A one-year deal isn't saying "this guy is the answer". He's getting a shot to earn his spot. Free agency has started. The draft hasn't happened. He is in no way guaranteed a roster spot. People are overreact so much this time of year.

Because the coach - player obviously has a "white dude can't run fast but he is smart" undertones to it. That particular comment was related to this issue as I presented it.

This is why we are such an average team. We get great players like Norman, KK, and fail to lock them up long term but lets hang on to dear ol' Bersin for 10 years

Man, are you serious?  Really?  Bersin's 1 year deal is probably $1 million or less (whatever the vet min is) compared to the $15 million a year for Norman or the $14 million for KK's tag?

Bersin is depth.  He's a good 4th WR, and he knows the team.  If we find better, he's easily cut with minimal lost.  Completely different contracts.

However you want to frame it in your twisted mind, he's a player-coach. Anyone wondering why this guy has been kept around for so many seasons despite making minimal contributions on the field, there is your answer.

business aspect it really isnt bad. because he could be either grooming a head coach for wofford or maybe in staff. but personnel wise, is a different story,

The damn fool could retire right now. All other 31 teams wouldn't take him. if that was the case, JR should just pay him to coach.
