Fanspeak Draft Simulator

In case some of you didn't know, there is a draft simulator at Fanspeak that lets you choose some variables, pick a team, and draft a mock draft based on the variables you select.

http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/

I wasn't a fan of it when it first launched because it was too early to tell much, and the data pool was smaller.

It is getting some updates, so I decided to run a few mocks to see how I ended up picking for the Panthers:

The first attempt was probably the most Panther-est of Panther drafts. We get some solid guys throughout, even though we missed out on Fournette (Jacksonville took him.) Here's how it ended up for us.

8: R1P8
S JAMAL ADAMS
LSU
40: R2P8
EDGE CHARLES HARRIS
MISSOURI
72: R3P8
C ETHAN POCIC
LSU
98: R3P34
TE JORDAN LEGGETT
CLEMSON
115: R4P8
RB KAREEM HUNT
TOLEDO
152: R5P8
EDGE DAWUANE SMOOT
ILLINOIS
192: R6P8
RB FREDDIE STEVENSON
FLORIDA STATE
233: R7P15
DL JEREMIAH LEDBETTER
ARKANSAS

I changed the team needs variable for a second run. Originally I picked User-Voted for team needs, but for the second run I chose FanSpeak. Here's how it played out then:

8: R1P8
EDGE MYLES GARRETT
TEXAS A&M
40: R2P8
RB LEONARD FOURNETTE
LSU
72: R3P8
TE BUCKY HODGES
VIRGINIA TECH
98: R3P34
C ETHAN POCIC
LSU
115: R4P8
DL DAESHON HALL
TEXAS A&M
152: R5P8
S JOHN JOHNSON
BOSTON COLLEGE
192: R6P8
RB FREDDIE STEVENSON
FLORIDA STATE
233: R7P15
DL JEREMIAH LEDBETTER
ARKANSAS

Needless to say, lmfao. Garrett and Fournette, without having to trade up. So yeah, let's count out FansSpeak's team needs.

For those two runs, I chose the composite player rankings. For my third run, I switched to CBS' rankings, and reverted back to user-voted for needs. Here's how that one went:

8: R1P8
EDGE SOLOMON THOMAS
STANFORD
40: R2P8
S BUDDA BAKER
WASHINGTON
72: R3P8
CB QUINCY WILSON
FLORIDA
98: R3P34
RB SAMAJE PERINE
OKLAHOMA
115: R4P8
C ETHAN POCIC
LSU
152: R5P8
OT DAN SKIPPER
ARKANSAS
192: R6P8
EDGE KEIONTA DAVIS
CHATTANOOGA
233: R7P15
FB FREDDIE STEVENSON
FLORIDA STATE

Not bad, although I don't think Wilson slides to the third round.

If I had to pick, the first would probably be most likely to be accurate to how the draft could play out for us.

Anyways, it is a fun way to kill time if you're bored. I wish they had a way for you to control more than one team, or to import rankings.

Pretty happy with it. We get that 5 year option on both Adams and Ross.

Heres the mock:

Trade down to Browns at #12 for our #8. Browns give us their #1 in 2nd round because QB's are about to go. Teams calling Panthers for pick 8 such as Browns, Cardinals are calling for DL help, and Philly is calling for 8 for Dalvin Cook.

Panthers take:

R1 TE OJ Howard

R2a WR John Ross

R2b SS Obi Melifonwu

R3a T Antonio Garcia

R3b DE Jordan Willis

After running the fastest 40 time ever you believe Ross will slip to the 2nd? After all those playoff teams at the end of the 1st and the basement teams in the top 5 , that's not happening even with his injury history.

Possibly right. He'lll probably go to a team who loves speed.  Substitute in JuJu for John Ross.. There ya go.

Traded down but targeted Mccaffery. Want him to be more of a slot reciever than a rb. Our OL is not going to be good. Need to get the ball out quick.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 28 (DAL): Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford (A-)
Round 2 Pick 8: Carl Lawson, DE/OLB, Auburn (A-)
Round 2 Pick 28 (DAL): Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State (B+)
Round 3 Pick 8: Josh Jones, SS, NC State (A-)
Round 3 Pick 28 (DAL): Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma (C-)
Round 3 Pick 34 (COMP): JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Southern California (A)

I did this finally.

Grabbed Fournette in the 1st, Jake Butt in the 4th, and took a flyer on LB Boulware in the 6th. Now that AJ Klien is gone we need a backup, I think Boulware will surprise, high motor guy. Not a Clemson fan BTW. What do you think?

It's fun but not a realistic sim. I try not to take players who i think would be unavailable.

8: R1P8

S MALIK HOOKER
OHIO STATE
40: R2P8

CB ADOREE' JACKSON
USC
72: R3P8

RB SAMAJE PERINE
OKLAHOMA
98: R3P34

EDGE TARELL BASHAM
OHIO
115: R4P8

EDGE DEMARCUS WALKER
FSU
152: R5P8

WR DEDE WESTBROOK
OKLAHOMA
192: R6P8

K ZANE GONZALEZ
ARIZONA STATE
233: R7P15

TE GEORGE KITTLE
IOWA
I think its pretty good for our needs and apart from the DE's realistic. My favorite pick atm remains Adoree Jackson who can be a great nickel and special teams upgrade on Ginn.

i used CBS' last update and NFLMock for team needs. i like CBS because of the nice database. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2017/DE

I'm sick of the OL issues, so i reached for Ramczyk. Why? i don't think Fournette is a generational player. I think Cam Newton is though, and its worth reaching if you can get a true blue Left Tackle prospect to protect the most valuable player on the team (next to Remmers of course--i kid, kid)

Cook in the second round. couldn't pass this up. think i got the best player in the round of what remained as Bolles went one pick ahead of Cook to the Jets. Even more happy with the Ramczyk pick now.

Walker in the third to add that right end that is needed to replace Charles Johnson.

Gerald Everett, don't know much about him. About this point in the draft i had to decide if centers or TE's would start falling first and i was worried if i took Pocic (who is rated the highest Center) then neither Butt nor Everett would be there in the fourth. Everett was rated about 20 spots higher than Butt so i took him and crossed my fingers on Pocic. I got Pocic in the 4th but my strategy was poor. Butt went about 5 picks later and Pat Elefin went about 7 spots later.

this and the fact the needs said CB and his name is Corn are the reasons for this pick. i had no choice.

i had a shot to get the taylor kid at WR (the one from LA Tech) but went with Ford at Safety in round 6.

Im an Auburn fan (shameful i know) and he did a great job as our Nickle (Auburn plays nickle almost the whole game--sound familiar?). He would fit perfectly in the system at Carolina and the guy is fast. he's got flaws but for a seventh round pick, they guy is a steal.

For those angered by this Matt Millenesque decision i took shelton gibson as my last pick. he had the best WR shuttle time at the combine. read up on him, he's a good get here, IMO

Panthero I'd take that draft not bad. Getting Ramcyzk and Cook is pretty much like getting two first rounders. Here's mine pretty much a well balanced, safe picks draft assuming there's no trades. I also got Cook in the 2nd but decided Barnett's talent isn't worth passing on for a tackle or yet another DT.

YOUR PICKS
1: R1P8
EDGE DEREK BARNETT

2: R2P8
RB DALVIN COOK

3: R3P8

4: R3P34

5: R4P8
TE JAKE BUTT

6: R5P8

7: R6P8

and fug it ill throw in a first pick mock too. Yes double dip at RB , WR, SS, and TE. Talent is stacked in certain positions this draft you can't pass on Legett in the 4th or Foreman in the 5th or 6th the value is through the roof that late. We have a world beating TE group with Greg, OJ, and Legett , a crafty RB in McCaffrey, a power RB in Foreman, an absoulte steal in Cam Robinson at pick 40. A gunner late round WR in Cannon and a solid all rounder in Smith-Schuster. Not to mention upgrading the pass rush with Walker.  I'd take this all day.

Round 1 Pick 14 (PHI): O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama (A)
Round 2 Pick 8: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama (A)
Round 2 Pick 11 (PHI): Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford (A)
Round 3 Pick 8: DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State (A-)
Round 3 Pick 10 (PHI): Eddie Jackson, SS, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 34 (COMP): JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Southern California (A)
Round 4 Pick 8: Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson (B-)
Round 5 Pick 8: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas (B-)
Round 6 Pick 8: Xavier Woods, SS, Louisiana Tech (C)
Round 7 Pick 15: KD Cannon, WR, Baylor (B-)
