Yes 7 players will be chosen before the Panthers BUT we don't know which players will be chosen. Let's be real beside Garrett who else is a given to be chosen ahead of us?
Since there are no clear cut players 2-6, there are many possibilities and options.
Allen, Fournette, Adams and Hooker could all be gone OR each of them could drop.
We believe we are going to get a good player but I have no clue who it might be. There are a lot of variables.

I notice more people talking about the people saying "he won't be there" than the actual people saying "he won't be there".

If anything I have noticed more of the opposite this year.  According to the huddle there are only 3-4 players worthy of the 8th pick.

The odds are improved picking 8th, but there is no such thing as a guarantee.  To many "guaranteed" successes have turned out to be bust.
