It won't matter in the read option. It was novel in 2011 and 12.  Now it is a waste of a play for the most part.  Every once in a while a defender misses an assignment and we get a big gain.

Read Option should not be a staple of our offense  It should be an Option just to keep them honest.

Dave i understand you and others like for McCaffery .. I like his versatility and skill sets as well..

But he is a match up player and Shula has shown consistenly he doesn't know poo about creating mismatches..

If we're getting a RB early i want one who is Fail safe to Shula's game planning..

Agree to disagree..

LF is talented enough of a RB to shine in any system with enough carries..

He can run with head start (like normal sets) I, near, weak and strong..

He can also run from a dead stop like shotguns, draws, and the read options..

If we get him.... I hope you are right.

I would fear the same thing for him.  I loved watching his workout.  So agile, so fluid, so natural and so explosive.  He will be a stud.

I'd love to see him in Carolina, but he would languish under Shula.  You'd need to make sure there is a real plan for him.

I think he's a special player.

Agreed but don't get me wrong.  I want Fournette.   Stewart demanded attention but this guy is going to demand extra attention.

Which is why I would like to see a more traditional "I" formatting.  The play action is far more believable and makes those LB hold an extra, EXTRA step with Fournette.   You hold those LB and if Fournette can pick up a blitzer and Cam is going to have someone open.

McCaffrey is not for us.   I love that he can catch out of the backfield but this is like Eddie George and Tim Biakabatuka.   Eddie George would have been such a better choice.

This is what we need

tbis is our offense.  This is what our staff wants to emulate.  We're just lucky enough to have had a athletic beast in Cam.  But Rivera said he wants to cut back on Cam's rushes.

A heavier dose of a LF/Stewart combo

1. Lengthens drives, gives the D some rest.

2. Opens up the play action to

a. Roll out scrambles, which made Prescott so great last year.  Cams a better athlete with a better arm so you can only imagine what damage can be done there.

b. Deep passes. Any WR with some quickness spells trouble in a good playaction game.  And big WRs DBs need help.  Remember KB climbing over the top of Sherman and Chandler deep rookie year.

best fit and a need.  The guys on SC we're right last night.  "The league better hope the panthers don't get their hands on    Fournette".

All this. His problem was playing with awful QB play his entire time at LSU. No RB is going to succeed running into 8-9 man fronts, with no threat of running or passing from the QB.

Berry Sanders, Adrian Peterson,Jamal Anderson, Warrick Dunn,Darrin McFadden,Chris Johnson, Jamal Charles, and Arian Foster all did...

Read option isn't....zone read is. Different things.

Really? All those players had to play 3 years of college football, with the worst QB  play of any power 5 team? Is that what you're trying to say here? Or are you ridiculously trying to compare pro careers to college?

Same backs did the same thing in college. Fact is completion only gets tougher in the NFL.

  Really....

  Sanders- Mike Gundy

  AP- Heisman winner Jason White

  Anderson- Mike McCoy

 Charles- Vince Young

Dunn-  Heisman winner Charlie Ward, Danny Kanell.

McFadden-probably only decent comparison. And he still had much better QBs

 Foster- Erik Ainge

Why some random collection of RBs, with only one that might be relevant to my point? As I've shown, they all had much better QB play than LF ever dreamed of. I don't even understand what your list was supposed to represent?

Really who on that list ever struck fear in a defense. Yup none and all those backs had to face 8 and 9 guys all day long. Fournette might be a good runner but he is not a cornerstone player. People talk like he is the next coming of Sanders,AP,or Arian Foster but really he seems more of a Blount or maybe Marshawn Lynch type guy.

Seriously? Two Heisman winners, Vince Young, Colt McCoy, Kanell(4th round pick) Ainge(5th), Gundy(retired as Big 8 leading passer) and McCoy who was solid. In what possible way can you compare them to the suck that LSU put out there the last 3 years. Have you ever watched college football? I don't care if you like Fournette or not. But your argument against what I stated is laughable, at best.

Fournette ran into 8-man boxes 67% of the time in 2016. The average is 31%.
