I'd only risk a 3rd for him. Those knee injuries are scary. The dude hurt himself running his 40. I'd have no problem taking him at some point though.

Kinda where I'm at. I wish his knees weren't badly compromised, but they are. I know a lot of people will mention TD, but he's the exception rather than the rule. The track record of guys with multiple ACL injuries is not good. The track record of guys with microfracture surgery is even worse. Combine the two and that's a huge concern. And I'll go ahead and mention that running really fast is great and all, but it doesn't speak at all to his durability moving forward.

He's first round talent and won't fall to 3rd. Maybe early 2nd depending. But at 4.22 he is a top 5 talent without the injuries. He isn't just fast but plays good ball having both is rare.

breaking the record is incredible..... and to have done it after those knee surgeries is very inspiring.

but at 8... no. Breaking Chris Johnsons record doesnt make you as good a football player. He has a chance to be really good... but he also has a chance to get pushed around by physical DB's. There's also injury risk there.

I like him. But not at 8. Chances are, his combine pushes him up draft boards...giving us a great shot at having a first round grade fall to us in the 2nd round.

But... his speed though... That's Deion / Bo Jackson territory.

Didn't Byrd run a 4.28 on GRASS at his Pro-day? Grass times are usually slower than turf times. Not to mention he had a higher vert despite being 2 inches shorter. He was only 2 inches off of matching Ross in his broad jump.

Only difference between Byrd and possibly Ross is that the Panthers would feel obligated to play Ross since they used a pick on him.

I've watched every college game Byrd played, and I'm a fan of his.  I hope he gets his shot this year.

But John Ross is on another level.  He's a much better football player than Byrd was in college.

Frankly, there is room for both Byrd and Ross on this team.  The experiment with big slow receivers that can't separate should be over.  Ginn has been our top receiver for two seasons for a reason.  And he can't keep this up forever.

We need speed on offense.

Really wish he didn't have those knee issues. I'd have no problem with him at #8 if he didn't.

The ACLs are a big concern, but the microfracture surgery is a huge concern. The track record of athletes coming off of that particular surgery is pretty awful.

Agreed.  Worth noting that all of his best tape is post-surgeries. He has recovered athletically - much more so than should have been expected.  Same could probably be said for Clowney post microfracture surgery.  But what's the durability going to be?

He's so good though.  It's unfortunate.  Pretty clear that some on here haven't seen him play.  The 4.22 wasn't at all surprising.  He plays that fast.  He makes top CB prospects - like Adoree Jackson - look silly.
