Agree, everyone hates an internet tough guy.

Just curious though why do you find it sad and depressing?

Fair question. I've seen some technical fights that I admire, ending in a submission for example. Then I've seen some where a guy is bleeding profusely and fighting on. While I appreciate his courage,  it saddens me that there is no meaningful cause behind it. It's not war, or protecting a loved one,  etc.

I know football can be violent and I understand equivocations can be reasonably made. Probably just my background,  but the optics of some UFC fights are far worse than a concussion or torn ACL to me.

So basically you enjoy watching violence if you dont have to see the real-life outcome of it? Broken bones and ACL tears are ok because its just a guy getting carted off the field..but a busted up eye or mouth that you see right up in your face bothers you?

Not trying to give you a hard time, but really its like saying you like war as long as you dont have to see the dead bodies. You do realize that football is also not a war, not protecting a loved one, and no real cause other than....wait for it....People have a passion and want to compete~

That's it. ^^

I get why a casual fan wouldn't like it though because on the surface it seems pretty brutal.

Hell, maybe it is. My perspective is skewed by the fact that I've been a fan since '93 and was involved in the sport (at an amateur level) for over a decade.

Due to the marketing strategy, (which apparently works) the sport now appears to be about "talking trash" and "bad blood".

For those that follow it closely, it's about martial arts, training, game planning, intestinal fortitude and heart and finally mutual respect when it's over.

The hype machine paints a different picture but between the two fighters, its competition at its purest.

Agreed. As an amateur MMA guy myself, but a "competitor" in various things since childhood..there is just something about the idea of getting out there and doing it. Regardless of the sport, there is a breed of people that compete in all sorts of things. Most dont make money at it....a few make some scraps....and a very rare few maybe a living from it. Aside from the sight of blood, I fail to see the logic of one risking health for X sport is somehow acceptable, but not for Y sport.

Its cool though. Sad the offseason brought us to a point where a thread about a full grown as man fights a woman literally half his weight is even here~ My god let the combine begin!
