Brandon Jennings Situation = Proof Tanking Wouldn't Work Here

The small army of people on here who champion tanking filled their diapers upon learning we wouldn't be signing Brandon Jennings. This proves that if we really go Sixers-style in for tanking and just sign absolute trash, people will disown the team and the attendance will plummet to ungodly levels due to fan unrest and 10-72 records.

Fans want the best-case scenario out of tanking, but they want that best-case scenario now without having to actually, you know, tank and lose a lot of games. Tanking also nukes your chances of attracting free agents for years. Think it's bad now? Jeremy Lin wouldn't have looked twice at Charlotte if we were doing what many of you suggest.

The team as it is now isn't very good. In fact, without Cody Zeller providing a good punch alongside a rapidly progressing Frank and Kemba/sometimes Batum, we don't win games because our bench sucks. The starting five isn't great but it's not bad either.

I guess what I'm saying is our team needs a lot of improvement, but torpedoing everything would not succeed here.

Being a Hornets fan, although as miserable as it has been lately, has me really wondering how fans of the Knicks, Nuggets, Kings, Suns, etc. do it every year.

We at least make the playoffs occasionally. I mean the NBA needs to create more parody. I just don't see the appeal, particularly if you are a bottom dweller. I guess they can at least look forward to a pick.

Then again maybe we have it the worst being a middling team with no shot.

Never mind, it sucks the most to be us.

NBA's biggest problem is that even before the season began - everyone knew who the 2 (maybe 3) teams were going to make the Finals = CLE, GSW and SAS..

it is the biggest problem league wide - but to casual fans - it might be the best thing.. the biggest stars will be in the Finals - which means casual fans will tune in to see LeBron and KD and Steph.. the NBA doesn't have to worry about a Milwaukee Bucks vs Denver Nuggets matchup..

Not like it has changed since league was created. You've had dominate teams from the get for the most part and it got ridiculous in the 60's. In the 50's Minny (lakers) won 4 championships and in the 60's the same 3 teams really played for each championship outside of phillys win.

Maybe the only time period you could say the NBA didnt have a dominate championship team was the 70s but you still had the west.

The 80's had LA dominate the championship lamdscape for most of the decade. The 90s had the Bulls, the 2000s were the Lakers and Spurs.

Right now you have Cle, GS and SA dominatint.

Nothing's really changed with the NBA, it's always been about Star power. It's why the draft isn't set to guarantee the worst team get the best pick...cause sometimes you have a Ewing to thr Knicks or a James to Cle type of situation and you need to be able to guarantee the right places get the stars...

I need a good laugh, can you write an analysis post that isn't the written version of you menstruating?

Nope that is all I do. Now it is your world and we all just live in it soooooooooo you might be able to change that? I will say this Kaminsky is looking like a good pick now.

Since 1980 their has been 11 different teams that have won a NBA title. And outside of the Mavs, Warriors, Cavs, and, 76ers the other 7 teams have multiple titles in that 37 year span.

Whereas the NFL has seen 16 different champs in that same window. A few more teams but its still dominated by the same teams for the most part

I've support the hornets most of my life, he'll even the bobcats. I'm a nuggets fan and we made the playoffs from 03/04-12/13 and had the second longest streak only behind the Spurs. We could very well make it again this year if they started today

Somehting that makes the hornets so frustrating is the lack of young talent. The nuggets have young talent to develop, but sadly I can't say that about the hornets smh

Oversight on my part with the Nuggets...however nothing came from it, and they lost their star player.

I think you'd need to compare playoff teams too.   NFL has more variation on who makes the playoffs.    MLB as well.    In MLB you can have Cinderella teams and the only NBA team to fit that in recent memory was Brown's Pistons.    The NFL has had wildcard teams go on to win the Super Bowl, same with MLB to the series.     I think the only 8th seed in the NBA has only ever made it to the finals ONCE (Knicks I think) and they definitely haven't won.

So out of the 4 top sports in USA at least, the NBA has the LEAST amount of true competition, and it's not even close imo.

I greatly respect your basketball acumen and know you are a real fan @Carl Spackler...  that being said, I felt like Jennings signified a last ditch effort at actually making an effort lol.  Us giving him the okie doke and backing out of what appeared to be a done deal in favor of signing a scrub dleaguer was the declaration of purpose for this season.  I have no problem at this point now, in tanking...  it was just disappointing to see is feign interest, like effort, and then shamefully wave the white flag like, "you know, nevermind...  we don't really want to win anyway."  It seemed like further insult to injury after the atrocity this past offseason was and the subsequent three-steps back move in trying to correct it by trading for Plumlee and eating up any remaining cap space we had to lure a star here (hello Curry) this offseason.

Sure, we could find a way to make a deal to clear that space if we genuinely have a shot at anyone this offseason, but probably not without giving up a ton of assets to do so.  So, no matter how you slice it, this past offseason, this season, the entire culture of our franchise is disappointing.  Middling team, don't draft well, makes horrible FA acquisitions, no cap space, trades set us back further than of we just stood pat...  i don't know that there has been a more disappointing turnaround in less than a year.  I mean, even when we were the bobcats, everyone knew and expected us to suck.  We had no reason to fall off like we did from last year to now, other than horrible personnel decisions.

Stop bitching it is frowned upon in these parts. Ignore the terrible moves no matter how crappy they are. Let us focus on the positives like Kemba........and.........the Panthers play again soon........and..........well........we now have Gana Dio....... I mean Miles Plumlee on the bench. Seriously though they need to clean house.
