I disagree, there is better talent on the offensive side of the ball that will have bigger impact.

DL depth is pretty good with extension of Mario & Horton , we can find better value at DE in the mid rounds.

Drafting another DE would also suggest the DG messed up on the Ealy pick.

This may sound harsh, but based on his production so far it appears DG did mess up on the Ealy pick. I don't think he's played well enough to merit his 2nd round selection.

Now, it's possible that Ealy could have a breakout season in 2017 and prove me wrong (I hope he does actually). But if he doesn't,  and continues to play like he did last season, could your really make an argument that Carolina couldn't find someone better to play at the LDE spot going into the 2018 season?

Ealy is in the last year of his contract so he'll be an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the season. DG is going to have to make a decision on his future with the team (if there is one).

I don't think Ealy was a mess up. He has flashed. Draft picks are never a sure bet and after the first round its usually boom or bust.

KK is criminally undervalued on this board.

I would not say that but he did disappear last year bad.

No idea if Ealy can turn the corner or not. Hard to say he is a bust. Has he become the stud we saw in the SB, no, but he's got 14 sacks in 3 years with some limited playing time (15 starts). I think he still has a chance, but honestly, him not stepping up last year opened the door for Addison and he got rewarded for doing what Ealy wasn't.

As bad as we think our pass rush was, our DEs got 23 sacks. That's not awful production at all, heck that was almost as many as the worst sack teams had in total. That said, I sure as fug want a DE at 8 or 40 (maybe a move up if a Barnett/Charlton drop a bit). We need some young talent and with the pressure we got, adding a stud DE would make the entire defense better.

The highlighted section from the 1st paragraph was very well stated. Kony is moving into the last year of his 4yr rookie contract. Since those deals don't have a 5th year option this is the time you start to see post-1st round selections receive lucrative extensions. Had Ealy put up Addison numbers he'd probably already have an extension (with more money than Addison got) or be poised to cash in at the end of 2017. Instead a guy we got off of another teams practice squad is our best pass rushing DE. I don't think anyone envisioned that when Ealy was picked in he 2nd round.

A stud DE would definitely make our defense better. Unfortunately, those aren't exactly easy to find; and we all know there is no sure thing when it comes to drafting players.

IMO,, draft picks are boom or bust after 3rd round. I still believe Ealy can turn around but in most cases DEs are over hyped ever year in the draft.
