Tailgate with a Purpose Raised $13K for the Cam Newton Foundation

Wanted to share this in here since the Huddle is a big part of our tailgate and many of you come out and join us every week and played a big part in helping us accomplish this.

The short version - we were able to raise $13K for the Cam Newton Foundation this past season at our tailgates.

Here's a link to the more detailed version if you're interested -> https://roaringriot.com/blogs/news/2016-tailgate-with-a-purpose-raises-13k

Thanks to everyone who helped out and/or supported the cause. Despite how terrible this past season was we still refuse to lose the pre-game. We appreciate all of you.

Very impressive total given the team's terrible season.  Way to go Riot!  Proud to be a member even though I was overseas for the whole regular season.  Only got to the tailgate at the Patriots game pre-season.  Wore my Riot T here in Africa on many game days...

@RoaringRiot

Can you say yet if the Tailgate is going to be in the same place this year?  I'm thinking of getting on the wait list for one of those EZ Parking spots but only if the Riot is nearby again.

Doesn't look like it's going to be the same spot. However, the deal we are working on would include plenty of affordable parking for our attendees.

Beyond thrilled that we were able to raise $13k again, but I know we can do better!  Is there going to be a change requiring donations or are you just going to keep it how it is?  I know you don't want to keep Panther fans away, but I also know there are people that come to the tailgates and have never donated a single dollar, unfortunately.  I always tell my guests to bring some cash to support the cause.  The sad reality is that not everyone that attends does.  Just wondering and sparking some conversation.

I will never be disappointed about raising $13K by sitting around drinking beers and eating food before a football game. But yeah you're right, there were definitely a ton of people who abused the format and with the amount of support and the tailgate size we really should have done better than $13K. We've been working on a few different ideas and should have something in place in the next 4-6 weeks. Without saying too much (until it's finalized) it looks like we're going to buy an entire lot and use a portion of it for the same format like the last two seasons where we provide everything but with some kind of "required" donation (sorting out with the ALE what we can legally do because of our permits) and then open the rest of the lot for people to park and bring their own tailgate stuff. I love the old spot but we've outgrown it and this way we can have more people and give them options and get back to more of a traditional tailgate-feel while it still being one big party.

But yes, it absolutely sucks that people had to ruin a pretty sweet setup by not doing the right thing.

Right on, man.  Looking forward to the announcement!

I had a dream that I won the lottery and bought a parking lot for the riot to tailgate in. Members only. I'll let you know how it goes the next time I play.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
