I'd take Cyprien here. Wouldn't put him above Berry, but Berry was never an option for me.

I'd be happy with any of:

Jefferson

Swearinger

Cyprien

Hyde

Harmon

Church

Lots to like on the FA market for our safety needs.

This. Berry or no, we should definitely have an opportunity to get better at SS this offseason. And getting better at SS would equal getting better at both safety positions by allowing us to put Coleman back at FS where he's better suited. We were playing our best safety out of position last year to accommodate a lesser player in Boston. That didn't make a lot of sense to me, but we have the opportunity to remedy that this offseason.

What are you talking about? How does Cyrprien fill a need and Berry doesn't? They're both strong safeties.

Cyprien isn't even in the same league as Berry. Cyrprien's PFF grade is only close to Berry's because Jacksonville REALLY limited Cyprien's coverage duties (because he struggles in coverage) and basically kept him as a in-box safety.

Where as Berry led the Chiefs secondary with his 'coverage grade'. Berry is one hell of an athlete and can cover any tight end in the league. In a dominant passing league these days both your safeties need to be able to cover

Yea berry can play both spots while Cyprien is just a in the box safety. Cyprien would work for us but I wouldn't pay anywhere near the amount I would for Berry.

Honestly a move like this could set this franchise up for long term success. D line is all but set except question marks at de, berry sures up the safety position, and CB is dependent on the growth of bradberry and Worley, we still should add a vet or mid round draft pick just in case.

Importantly this allows us to go offense heavy in the draft if the vaule is there, Leonard, Oj, or Davis all could be and option, 2nd round we could take a swing at a guy like John Ross if he falls or pick up Dede in the later rounds. Only two problems will be addressing our tackle situation, and berrys health

pipedream unfortunately... he'll probably end up with the Bucs or some bs

Remember, he has a say in which team he goes to as well, if available.  He wants a match of getting paid AND team fit.  That would be us.

We have the cap room, I'm confused by this.

You think DG will be paying a player in the secondary the most at his position? And besides, the Chiefs are going to tag him and continue to negotiate and if they still can't get it done will probably trade him, and we certainly won't be paying him AND giving up a pick for him.

Let's hold our horses a sec on him getting tagged.  Werder said so but Schefter doesn't list him here.  The contract they just gave LDT is absolutely insane on top of what they already have on their plate.

While letting there best line player leave. Logic doesn't compute.

The Chiefs are trying to finalize a deal with safety Eric Berry that would make Berry the NFL’s highest-paid safety, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

Getting that deal done soon would not only keep Berry off the market but would give the Chiefs the chance to use their franchise tag on nose tackle Dontari Poe instead of using it on Berry. The deadline to place the franchise tag on players in Wednesday, March 1.
