Damn that Dave Gettleman for letting JNo not eat up our cap in 2016!!  #LongGame

FWIW, I did want JNo back on the FT for 1 more year.... but still....the longterm gain vs. the short term (if we use that late 3rd rounder properly) is why DG is still one of the best GMs in the game.

If we sign Berry to boot he gets the genius mantle back-Berry>JNo

I too wanted Josh on the tag for one year, then bu-bye. Plus you know the cap roll over is 13 million? Thats the same as the CB tag form last yr..... Finding bradberry was the TKO for me, Josh is not 15x worth/better than bradberry.

Stop making the 4th rounder feel bad. 98 is awesome but 115 sucks?

Say it again 5 in 115. At least the draft won't be boring. With no trade ups we pick once every 23 picks through our fourth. Last year we waited 30 picks just to get our first one.

I've seen a few reports that you're be able to find starting level talent til the late 5th round(DB pool mainly). Unlike last year where 5th rounder where practice squad level talent.

O and I oddly prefer 5 out of 115 than 4 out of 98.....

So this is beautiful: the Osweiler pick didn't fall a few spots from what was expected, it didn't count at all (the Denver 3rd is from Malik Jackson).

Denver got cute with that Okung contract, thinking it would only count for the cheap, guaranteed year if they let him go this year (which they did) prior to the big option years kicking in.

However, the NFL saw through this and averaged all the Okung years in its calculation. So instead of Okung canceling out the 7th round pick they'd get for Vernon Davis, it cancelled out the 3rd for Osweiler.

TLDR: The Broncos' "cleverly" constructed Okung deal effectively cost them the 97th pick in exchange for pick 255. All for a guy they just released.

Although the owner of maybe the most unique jargon in the sport, Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman isn’t the type to say he told you so. But if there was ever a time to do exactly that, it’s probably now.

10 months and four days after Gettleman rescinded his franchise tag offer to cornerback Josh Norman in what looked to be the beginning of a complete disaster, the Panthers have been reimbursed with one heck of a prize. The announcement of that reparation came on Friday afternoon when Carolina was officially given the 2017 NFL draft’s 98th overall selection, the second-highest compensatory pick handed out this offseason.

This haul, also partly (and minimally) due to the departure of punter Brad Nortman, will now stand as their second third-round pick and eighth overall for the end of April. It’ll also prove to be one of the handful of reasons why allowing Norman to pick up for nation’s capital was, indeed, the right move by the Panthers.
