I love Derrick Barnett

WOW!!

Kid has some drool worthy qualities. I really think he's in play at 8. My guess is Fournette and both safeties will be off the board by 8. I really hope Hooker or Adams is there, but truly doubt it.

That's going to leave Gettleman and RR the choice between Barnett, Thomas and Howard at 8.  Any of these three would be great for our team.

Barnett reminds me a bit of Kearse. The fact that he will be a young 21 when the season starts is pretty incredible. Add another vet on the other side.... whether its Addison or someone else.... I really think Barnett could be a stud very quickly.

Howard, and Thomas are solid bull rusher who can kick in to 3techs..

But Barnett has that elite outside pass rushing skill like (Von Miller) that bend around the tackle move where Miller gets low as hell still on his feet and gets around the tackle.. Barnett can do that.. I haven't seen much tape of the other 2 showing that...

That's why Barnett my 1st choice.

In a nightmare scenario Barrett might be the best available...something like:

1)  Cleveland - Garrett

2)  Niners - Lattimore

3)  Bears - Allen

4)  Jax - Thomas

5)  Titans - Adams

6)  Jets - Fornette

7)  Bolts - Hooker

That would SUCK IMO.  If I was the Panthers I would seriously try to move back for someone coming to get a QB.

Not only would it not suck, it might be the best thing that could happen.  Only time will tell.

Definately agree his production was amazing, and in the SEC to boot.  Was watching the Bama game and he went right by Robinson and on one play for the sack fumble.  He appeared to be good against the run as well.

This is probably the safest pick Gettleman could make in the 1st and probably no one could argue against it even if Adams or Allen were there. There's people that are arguing that he's a more complete pass rusher than Garrett is. I wouldn't be mad with him or S.Thomas.

There's no way. There's always at least one team drafting high that's going to pick a QB. I wouldn't be suprised if Trubisky and Watson go 1+2 just like Goff and Wentz did last year. Hell some team might get so high on either of the QBs Cleveland already has pick 12 its easy to see them trading out of pick 1 for a kings ransom.

There's always a curveball pick or two in the top picks of the draft too. Like what happened to Tunsil and then Cowboys not picking Bosa, all it takes is one team picking who no one expects them to pick that changes all the subsequent picks.

Barnett is intriguing.  He's clearly got great bend / rip around the edge and quickness in short spaces.  Impressive usage of hands.  My two biggest questions based on his highlights - 1) does he have an inside move? (most of his highlights were outside speed moves) and 2) is he explosive enough to win in a similar fashion in the NFL?

Ultimately, I think his athletic testing will determine whether he is worthy of the eighth pick.  Justis Mosqueda has done a ton of great work showing that measures of explosiveness (not the 40) are the best predictor of NFL success at DE.  If he's got the right level of explosiveness, he would solve a huge problem our defense had last year.

The combine will be very important for his draft prospects.

Inside moves and strenght can be developed..

But that bend around the corner is birth skill set...

To get that low and bend the corner like that only a few pass rushers have that level of flexability ... That's why i love him for us...

Combine confirms that he is bendy but not explosive.  He's a snap jumper.

On the one hand, that's disappointing.  I don't think you can feel great about drafting him at 8.  I do think there is now a chance he falls into the second round.  He should be a good player for a long time in the league.  But not many edge rushers are great without having explosive athleticism.

NFL OTs are just too good (at least on non-Panthers teams, that is).
