He is no chicken in the gaps,, really brings the sauce on hits hits to RBs. One nugget of advice I would give to teams is to expect him to need help with runners who have shake-n-bake in the open field. He can over pursue.

One thing is sure... we won't be as salty at his departure as we were at Peppers'.

He's due some major cabbage with his next contract.  Just hope he doesn't fudge it up.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. Luke ran a 4.58, but his instincts and preparation let him play a lot faster than that. Klein is not slow. Hell, TD ran a 4.6 at the combine.

Thomas was a guest host on NFLN on a few years ago and explained that he held off preparing for the 40 and focused solely on coverage skills and other elements.  He went to the combine and was given a hard time in every single interview by teams asking why he wouldn't run.  So, unprepared TD ran a 4.6 at the combine.

At his pro day he ran a 4.52.

This story fully supports my general point.

Why can't we ever trade players right before their value plummets or their contract runs out? Elite teams like the Pats do this every year.

They do it with proven quality players they no longer need who have racked up years of film on the field - Collins, Jones, Seymour, Moss, Mankins, etc. While the general model would seem to be applicable to any team, guys like AJ don't fall into that category. The equivalent would be Kalil, Turner, Norwell, Star, etc.

Interestingly, this has made me realize just how much of an experience 'donut' there is on Carolina's roster... Addison, Cam, Luke, and Coleman are the only major contributors with 5-9 years in the league under their belt. This team is young, with a few grizzled veterans like Kalil, CJ, TD, and Olsen sprinkled in.
