Thomas has a wider frame and is heavier than Taco. He's almost 280 lbs. Being tall is overhyped. Everything is about leverage in the NFL. If he can play at pad level like a boss, he can make an OT who is 6-7 his bitch.

I don't want to hear about size after Genoa Atkins and Aaron Donald have taken the league by storm.

Thomas has similar traits. Solomon almost moves like a LB from sideline to sideline, has violent quick hands and is fast out of his stance. Then there's his motor. I can't overstate how fast and how angry this guy plays. He's in your face but isn't a punk about it (like Luke).

Thank you.  His combination of quickness and power is really freaking impressive.

I didn't expect the hesitation in the responses, think he's a really good potential fit here and is one of 5 talents clearly in the top tier in this draft.  His pro comparisons are really interesting.  A lot of writers have compared him anywhere from Michael Bennett to JJ Watt.  Those just looking at height and weight when it comes to DEs need to take a deeper dive here.

Combine him with a lengthy athletic type like Hall/Wise Jr. and that would be an awesome double dip IMO.

Dude, get Taco's dick out of your mouth.

Solomon has produced consistently and pawns Taco in the IQ, instincts, technique and motor department. Athleticism can only get you so far.

1. Garrett
2. Barnett
2b. Thomas
4. Not Taco
5. Some other guys
6. Taco

Fo sho, I'm on DE draft train! I'm up in the fornt, keeping a eye on the gauges. Even open to these two ideas- back-2-back Des with #1&#2 and even discussing #3/4 over hooker, Adams, and fournette.....Currently Thomas seems to fit what the panthers want in any player. Thomas is like the Luke of DEs. Cannot speak on taco, don't know enough. Right now just about every good, bad and great talent evaluator has Thomas over taco. Honestly it's still early, I could see taco blow away his pro-day and own the combne. Thus passing the boring Thomas. Rumor has it Thomas has short arms and isn't a ultra elite athlete, but I still have him as my #2 guess on Dave's top eight. Thomas good athlete with elite motor, we'll see come combine.

Don't let people down play the combine, underwater Olympics, only worth 1%, blah blah. It matters big time for certain athletes.

The sad part is that if Taco even had a smidge of work ethic and possessed a better motor, he'd be a Garrett level type of prospect. Too bad he relies on just being athletically gifted.

I don't know. When you look at him as a person, the bust percentile is just too high.

Weird you would say that. Thomas's motor can also be heavily questioned.

Everyone has this idea of a RDE lining up wide and dipping his shoulder and speed rushing around the outside of the OT, but what if he is playing LDE wouldn't he be covered up by a TE a lot?

Also one of the best ways to get sacks is to get teams into 3rd and long.  You often do that by stopping the run on first and second down.  If I'm not mistaken he was one of the better run defenders in college.

Also his quickness might surprise some people at the combine.

Someone give me a valid argument why Thomas won't work as a 4-3 DE.

Honestly, someone please give me one.

I can give you plenty of reasons why he's certainly not a well fit as a 3-4 guy either. His athleticism won't fit for that scheme, and his size certainly doesn't.

Only position I see that makes sense for him is a 4-3 DE.

I also agree that Thomas is a high possibilty for us...the great news is that if we want DE we will get a great one.  i wouldnt rule out Malik McDowell either.  That guy is a serious talent. Also, it is no lock that Johnathan Allen doesnt make it to 8.  Class is loaded at DE.. I would rank Taco lower than any of those players.

i will admit that I saw like 2 live games of Thomas.  He completely dominated the Sun Bowl vs UNC but honestly I am very familar wih UNC and their OL is terrible. That was laughable them trying to handle him. That said Thomas talent is obvious.

Honestly, the issue is Thomas seemed to have become an overrated prospect. The combine will really set in stone his true value.

But he sure does have potential.

I absolutly Love Thomas. But dont think he's a top 15 guy.
He is a little shorter and not long, but again so is Barnett who everyobe is drooling over.
What I love the most about Thomas is underrated by most.
He has some of the best Hands out of any DL in this draft, even moreso than Garrett. He has a extremly powerful punch (really helps hes a boxer on the side as a hobby)
Suh has never been the most athletic guy. He just has Powerful good hands which almost makes him unstopable 1 on 1.
If Thomas can show the burst and bend off the edge his stock could and should shoot to the top. Some dont like the comparison but I see him as a JJ Watt. He's played 3-4 DE in Stanford D but has the ability to play 4-3 DE

I really think we'll address DL in FA and/or in other rounds...

Pick 8 should be Fournette, Adams or another DB, or maybe even a WR like Mike Williams or Corey Davis.

We could default to LB (if Foster is there) or DL if someone like Barnett is on the board and our other guys are gone.

It won't be Dalvin Cook. I'm 99.99999999999999% sure of that.
