Will Fournette fall to 8 if no QBs are taken?

Can someone explain to me why we should use our 8th overall pick on a RB? The only team in the playoffs last year that used a first round pick on a RB was the Dallas Cowboys.  We don't have their offensive line.  Their offensive line is amazing and they invested heavily in them.  That same offensive line made Demarco Murray the league's leading rusher and that didn't push them over the hump.  They finally played good defense and had consistent QB play last year, and that seemed to make the real difference.  There is a reason RBs are going in the first round less and less, and I don't think its because colleges just aren't producing talent at that position.  Just look at the list i gave above.  NFL teams are looking around and getting smarter.  Its all about the offensive line.  Can someone explain to me why we need to take a running back with the 8th overall pick when almost all of the consistent playoff teams/superbowl teams and leading rushers aren't first round picks?

When running is a top priority do you want to leave the position up to chance by hoping you hit on a sleeper or do you get the stud that's available (if available).

My best current guess is that two QBs, go before eight. I'm about 80% sure. Like another said, that still may not matter. I still believe the AP comparison is poor, among a few other questions. I just don't see the "once in ten years prospect". Zeke and gurley where better draft-able RBs.

I also believe that Gettleman will take the best DE available at our pick. Based on size that Gettleman preaches, Taco would in fact be that guy he's a big man! Solomon Thomas and Derek Barnett are very intriguing also. With our entire defensive line practically free agents this year and next this is a no brainer. Charles is gonna be gone, Short may be gone next year, Star is a FA, Addison is a FA. All we are left with is Vernon and Ealy, and our new first round DE that people keep predicting is going to be a RB lol. Only way we stray is if Gettleman has an OT like Ramcyzk or Robinson he grades higher.

If we draft Fournette , OJ , or one of the receivers I'm coming back to this post

This is called recency bias. You can't just look at this year. If Fournette is a potential all time RB, then you take him at 8. He was big news coming out of high school and compared to Peterson. He's got a chance to be a stud. How about instead of just looking at this year, look at the top 25 rushing yard leaders in the NFL. That's got more of the guys your are hoping Fournette is. In the top 25 rushing leaders in NFL history, here is the break down:

Top 13 overall picks: 18

Rest of 1st round: 2

2nd rounders: 3

3rd rounders: 2

18 of the top 25 NFL rushing leaders were picked from #1 overall to #13. One was picked #17, one #24 and then 5 others were picked after the 1st round.

This is a deceptively good post

It wouldn't be surprised if we took either Barnett , Thomas, Charlton, if there are no QBs taken that likely means Hooker, Adams, Fournette, and Allen are all off the board, all of them being players the Panthers would likely automatically select if any one of them dropped to pick 8. What does that leave?

*  #2 - #4 ranked DEs (right now Barnett, S.Thomas, Taco)

* #1 or #2 WR (Mike Williams /Corey Davis)

* #1 or #2 CB (Lattimore/ Humphrey)

* #1 LB (R.Foster)

* #1 TE (OJ Howard)

* #2 or #3 RB (Cook/McCafrey)

* #1 or #2 OT (C.Robinson/R.Ramzcyk)

Still some pretty decent options would be left. Don't panic just because the safeties and fournette are likely taken before us. And there's still a chance all 3 Qbs could go before us, nothing set in stone yet (ex. Trubisky to SF, Kizer to Bears, Watson to Jets)

but he is more of a 3-4 DE so that might be a big enough reason for g-man to pass. He's a damn beast though. Kept getting pissed off watching him vs UNC
