Run Blocking | Pass Blocking 2nd look at OJ Howard

CBS has Howard going 22nd to the Dolphins while Njoku goes 16th to the Ravens.

NFL.com has him going 32nd to the Patriots in its latest mock draft.

SB Nation has him going to Atlanta at 31st.

ESPN has him going 23rd to the Giants.

Bleacher Report has him going 22nd to the Dolphins.

Nobody thus far has Howard going in the Top 15.

It's February, we still have two months of poking and prodding. Howard and Njoku are solid picks, it's never trendy to mock TE, C or OG's because fanboys whine about overdrafting. Both guys are better prospects that Ebron who went #10 in a decent draft. Howard is a proven blocker in an offense that didn't showcase his catching skills but leaned on his blocking. He runs solid routes, has deceptive athletisism for a guy at 6'6". Top that with how mature he is in interviews and you have a day one starter opposite Olsen who can pass/run block far better than Dickson and a red zone target to pair with Olsen, Benjamin and Funchess.

As for him being mocked low, these analysts are sheep that move with opinion. Of course the Patriots will pair the best TE with Gronk, remember when Ryan had Tony Gonzalez? That's what they need to not choke! Eventually it will be Brees getting a Jimmy Graham equivalent in a month when both Howard and Njoku rise.

Truth is this offense needs to evolve and we need either a dynamic RB or a run/pass/catching TE to win the game of numbers on the field.

One thing's guaranteed every year, people gets pissed if you mock them TE, C, or OG's because they feel like you'll magically get that guy in the 2nd. OJ Howard is a top 15 pick and I wouldn't be angry with us taking him at #8. I honestly think his floor is #11 with the Saints.

There gonna  have to deal with it this year.

It's like Colts fans would get furious on reddit if you mocked them Taylor Decker or Ryan Allen. "WE NEED DEFENSIVE PLAYERS DUMMY, WHY WOULD WE TAKE DECKER IN THE 1ST WHEN WE CAN GET HIM IN THE 2ND?!?!??" They ended up taking Allen and Decker went a couple picks before the Colts 1st rounder to the Lions. Same thing will happen here until "experts" give Howard and Njoku a higher grade because we can get him in teh 2nd round! Look at my epic draft bruh!

Work ethic and effort right now are what I question about him.

His conference creates weak competition for him. He doesn't have to face many tough defenses or defensive backs, hence his inflated stats. Not to mention he just seems mediocre.

Now, back at work ethic, here's what I found on him:

https://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2017/01/26/2017-senior-bowl-practice-wrap-offense/

TE O.J. Howard, Alabama: A false start penalty, multiple dropped passes, poor effort on a catch able target, and lining up with a stance that you’d think would have been addressed at Alabama were among the things that confirmed my concerns about Howard on tape. Howard is the most impressive athlete at the position in Mobile, but his approach to the game is a detriment to his ability.

He seems to not really get the game. He may have the physical looks, but not the mental or game-mindset you're looking for.

The Senior Bowl really did open up to Howard not looking as great as everyone thought. I certainly believe Gettleman was throwing smokescreen in his comments about Howard after reading this. If he doesn't show full effort, I don't think he'll be in consideration; especially with how unreliable he was.

Not a fan.

Just a second... you're saying SEC Defenses are "weak competition"?
