TE David Njoku - Why He's The Best TE From This Class + Analysis

OJ Howard was dropping balls in Mobile as well.

As far as drop rate, how about I tell you Njoku was never expected to become the #1 TE for Miami until later in the year. He progressed really well throughout the year from an after-thought to focal point. Understand he has a smaller sample size to catch, hence why the drop rate is inflated.

He's also improved in reliability, and shows the perfect traits of proper catching form as alluded to in the video.

Like I said, he wasn't expected to be much, but broke out and became a top consideration.

Dude OJ Howard is the most complete TE in the last 5 years. This guy will probably not even make it as a backup. You have to catch the ball in the NFL. Also Bama played way better competition and Howard did everything well.

I can tell you took no regard to anything I said, or the tape.

I'm actually higher on Howard than originally, but value says he shouldn't be our 8th pick. Howard is more complete coming in, but Njoku has a higher ceiling.

How exactly does Njoku have a higher ceiling? Howard was criminally under-utilized in Bamas offensive scheme. We haven't even seen what Howard can do with regards to being a massive mismatch and key cog in an offense where he is a primary target along with Olsen. I think Howard proved to be the better athlete at the combine as well which was perceived to be Njoku's biggest strength early on in the process.

How many targets did they each see in their college careers? Their last year in college? I think we know more about where Njoku is now as a player and that part of the appeal of Howard is the unknown and the ceiling being through the roof because he's the best athlete on the field as soon as he steps on it. Then when you factor in his ability to block in line and take on ends and backers 1v1 in the running game it really separates the two in my eyes.

Howard is around the 4-5th guy I want at 8 but I got a feeling that in a vacuum where positional importance weighs equally that he's realistically a top 5 talent and player in the draft. He checks all the boxes and has immense upside.

Njoku just started playing football a few years ago. That's why. He's also still growing into his frame. Look at the tape, there were points during the season where Njoku was getting all the attention, giving the WRs wayyyyy better match ups. I could care less about Howard being underutilized. He's coming from Alabama where the ceiling is low for prospects and are driven to the ground from the work load. If Howard were so great, Saban would have used him way more.

Be goddamn honest, if it weren't for the national championship games, would you really consider him a 1st round prospect? NO. He barely flashed.

Njoku was Kaaya's safety net by the end of the season, not the third or fourth option.

So you also believe David has a higher ceiling than OJ? To each his own. They caught just around the same amount of balls and had similar production this past year. One a safety net and the other a third a fourth option. I like Njoku a lot just think Howard is a step above at this premature stage of their professional careers as a prospect.

Drafting big guys who go down after the first hit or after the catch is an exercise in futility. YAC should be the main reason we draft a receiver going forward. I'm tired of seeing 6'5" guys playing small ball going down on contact when 5'9" guys made a long and successful careers getting YACs. Moose and Smitty were drafted because of their YAC potential. The organization needs to get back to that. Our QB gets more YAC than anybody else on offense aside from Stew and it's pathetic. Truly a lost art as far as Panther receivers are concerned.

I just can't take another overhyped Alabama product. Howard is a tremendous athlete but is he the same type of player when opposing defenses start paying attention to him? I don't know. In the rematch against Clemson, he was contained until a miss tackle here and there, and a blown assignment resulted in big plays.

SPARQ has Njoku ranked higher. Even it's just one spot, there's a legit reason. The red zone offense percentage for the Hurricanes dropped significantly whenever Njoku went off the field. He was that much of a factor.

All it takes is two or three big plays a game. If Howard goes to any team worth its salt, he won't be the only one defenses have to pay attention to, lest someone be open.

Furthermore Bucky Brooks called him a "solar system player."
