Things We Should Be Talking About -- Vol. 1

It's the off-season, I get it. Whether it's an ''our receivers suck'', "KB to TE'', or "We need whomever at No. 8'' what we should be talking about is the current roster and some of the familiar or unfamiliar faces added to it by way of a future contract. First up...

Darrell Young-

Young is a 29 yr old FB we signed after the season ended. With the savings we could receive by cutting Tolbert I believe his name is one to keep an eye on as he could be the FB moving forward the next couple of years. With a very similar stature, and skill set, and  lower cost I have a hard time believing this won't happen as the Panthers continue to move forward and improve that position. Dezmen Southward-

Next up is just an interesting prospect although his combine measures him at 6', other outlets list him at 6'2'', when you read over his strengths he's a player you become interested in and the 3rd round selections seems to at least back that up. 

STRENGTHS

 Excellent size. Good straight-line speed. Bends his knees and pedals softly. Reacts well to plays in front of him. Played a hybrid safety role at UW, including defending slot receivers (even played CB in a pinch against BYU). Special-teams experience. Recorded a 4.38-second 40 time, a 42-inch vertical jump and 6.50-second three-cone time at his pro day workout.

So here you guys go, just a couple of future contracts to keep an eye on, in closing I think Young has a chance to supplant Tolbert as a cap casualty / production fall off. And Southward given his size, and athleticism could replace the often maligned Dean Marlowe as a depth safety, and special team participant.
