Hurney coming back?

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Joe Person of Charlotte's favorite newspaper says don't count Marty Hurney out as a candidate to replace Danny Morrison.

"One darkhorse candidate to keep an eye on is Hurney, the former GM who remains in Charlotte as co-operator of ESPN 730 AM.

"Hurney was 'relieved of his duties' – the wording from the Panthers’ press release – in October 2012 after Carolina got off to another slow start.

"But it was more of a mutual parting of ways between Richardson and Hurney, who did not want the axe to fall on Rivera. Richardson maintains a high level of respect for Hurney, who was in charge of managing the team’s salary cap before becoming GM."

Hurney sucked big time overall.  But he picked Cam, Luke, TD, traded for Olsen, Kalil, CJ, and others when others would have gone in a different direction.  He deserves a ring when it's finally won if nothing else.

If he took this job though, he'd have no input on football operations, just stuff like running the stadium and such.

He also took a 1-15 team to the Super Bowl in his second year, for what it's worth.

@Mr. Scot Hurney had no GM experience either did he?

Fug it, I'm tired of trying to figure out why we do what we do.

Give the retard a statue, key to the city and final say over the playbook.

No, but he had worked as a scout and a personnel guy.

The only other thing I remember him doing was PR. I'll have to check his background to see what else he's done.

We somehow elected a guy president of the country on a worse resume`. Surely a football team require a bit less vetting.

He worked as a scout?  I know he was Bobby Beathard's assistant and a sportswriter, and that he became somewhat of an expert at managing the salary cap, but I didn't know that he ever scouted.

My memory is that he worked his way up under Beathard, but I can't find a bio online anymore.
