Football Outsiders Cain Fahey - Panthers receivers are terrible

So we need better production out of our WRs?  Really

I think most of us would agree about that.  Some of the arguments being made though are a bit misguided.  To compare the YAC of Alex Smith's receivers to Cams is a bit weak.  QB accuracy and route concepts probably contribute to YAC more then the athletic ability of the receiver.

Also some people think in fantasy terms when talking about receivers.  They think if you add 2 1000yrd receivers to the team you automatically increase your passing by 2K.  In reality most receivers are products of the system the play in and the QB that is throwing to them.  There is a reason certain QBs consistently produce huge passing numbers regardless of who they are throwing to.

Also it is easy to take shots in hindsight about which receivers DG should have drafted.  I remember a lot of people talking about guys like Agholor, DGB, and Dorsett but would we have really been any different with them.

I'm not saying we shouldn't draft a receiver, I've actually been vocal about a few of them.  I would love for us to add a playmaker type and a possession type of receiver through the draft or free agency.

The funny part is the huddle will spend all season talking about how our receivers can't catch but when the combine rolls around they will fall in love with the guys who run a fast 40.  If a guy can't catch in college he sure isn't going to improve with Cam throwing to him.

We're not even talking about Gettleman, dumbass. Just pointing out that your Proehl theory has zero merit, zilch, nada, nothing.

Plenty of evidence that it's bulls--t is out there, but not a single shred of support outside of idiotic conspiracy theories.

You have no clue, as usual.

Actually I was taking about Gettleman that's why you responded, cause my comment was hinting balme at the front office.

Again avoiding the topic at hand,

Not really, but regardless of how you wanna spin it, your dumbass theory is bulls--t and has no evidence to back it up.

Feel free to scour the internet if you want.

I don't need to scour anything, it was MY theory based on the fact you hardly ever see coaches quit like that randomly and Gettleman is a grade A assh*le that leaves a sour taste almost all our former players.

Keep avoiding he topic though

It's hard to say what the problem last year was.  Cam had no time to throw, and I'm not sure he really focused on the off-season like he should have.  However, our receivers (with the exception of Olsen) did not impress me one bit.

They get one more season and if they play as shitty and lazy as they did last year, it's time to move on IMO.

I'd love to add someone to the mix however.  We desperately need a Julian Edelman type guy who is quick, tough and crosses the middle.

I've been hearing this WAY to long. Time to move on and make a change

They sucked in 2015 and they got even worse in 2016, Time to cut the cord.

Plenty of good teams win championships without stellar WRs.

I hate to say it... but the answer may be on the roster.

We have some talent here. I dunno if it is gonna be with KB... but Garrett, Byrd, Brown and funchess... it is a position group that does not determine a championship.

Plenty of good teams win championships without stellar RB, plenty of teams win without stellar DE, plenty of teams win without stellar DT, plenty of teams win without a stellar LB corp. I can go on and on.

Its not about having the best WR's its about not having that one of the worse WR corps in the NFL. Sorry to break it to you but no we don't have talent here, we in fact one of the least talented WR's corps in the league. You put our guys on the open market and no one would give a fug. We cut Byrd no one picked him up, Ginn is 4th string. Last year Cotchery was our second leading WR not a single team picked him up.

I know you think WR aren't important but I bet you weren't think that when we had 6 drops in last years SB.

I appreciate you apologizing for breaking it to me.

Also sorry we don't have talent here.

Too bad nobody would want any of our WRs...

Last year's SB was definitely lost due to drops.

... im glad I got my mind right tonight.

WRs with every pick, gents... and FA too!!!

We will find one in the mix somewhere.

And it's still just as made up as it always was.

Unless of course you have some actual evidence to back this up. I mean, that should be easy to find if it's really true, right?

Now granted, if it was just some stupid, phony bulls--t you made up, there wouldn't be any evidence now, would there?

Yea sure buddy

He's the GM. He definitely has the authority to fire positional coaches. Maybe even Ron himself, but he won't. Dave isn't a GM like Pioli. He stays out of those affairs. Richardson might have the final say but hired Gettleman not to be a 'Yes' man.

You have to be ignorant to believe Gettleman doesn't have the power to fire.

It's easier to go to Richardson and say "Hey, Ron's choices aren't panning out. He still kept Shula and Dorsey after those disappointing 2016 and 2017 seasons. I think it's time to move on" than "Hey, I fired Ron and his entire staff. Sorry. I couldn't give it another season. I didn't agree with his personnel decisions".

We already know who only has the authority & that is JR. During the press conference  DG said its up to Ron because he knows damn well he doesn't have any input maybe he can consult him but that's it.

Unless you have DGs contract or work in the organization admin your just speculating like everyone else.

Effort and concentration were issues with KB coming out of college.  His hands were an issue coming out of college.  Weaknesses rarely become strengths in the NFL.  His strength lies in his size, and his willingness and ability to high point.  He doesn't do that often enough.

Funch was a 2nd round pick, and has so far underwhelmed.  This isn't surprising.  He is very young, and has some upside, but nothing to really hang your hat on.

End of the day, we have 2 average to below average wideouts, but an outstanding TE, and a typically very strong running game, with a uniquely gifted QB.  Rarely have we been a team to "spray the field" but we may be trending that way.

This draft will tell us quite a bit as to which way this franchise is heading.  Pick a RB like many here want with that top choice, and it's more of the same.  Go WR there, and maybe we are changing our stripes.  Either way, I'm convinced that we need help on offense.  A premier TE, a premier LT, a premier RB, or a premier WR....I'm cool....but we do need help.

Actually, coaches retire for family reasons all the time. People old enough to actually have a family have no trouble understanding why.

Throw in that Proehl's own numerous statements about the matter and the manner in which the team has handled it show no evidence of any enmity whatsoever.

Yes it's "your theory", and "your theory" is ignorant bulls--t with nothing to back it up.

If Gettleman has this authority like people think, who has he actually fired himself since he has been here??

Ron is the one always addressing all staff changes. Why would he cross that road if the owner only gave him the job if he was okay with the current staff staying? Jesus, people really still believe he is a full decision making GM??
