It's time for Gettlemen to open up the pocket book.  No more garbage bin free agents.  He had that excuse in his first couple of years, but now he needs to use the money we've gained.

Most of that money will be spent keeping our own.

I doubt gettlemen would ever spend 30 million in new FA's. That is not this teams MO, whether you think its time, or not.

Yeah we need to get Reiff here pronto.  Though if a bidding war ensues, it shouldn't go over 10 million at the most.  I will say if it took 13 million, we are in a desperate enough situation to offer it to him.

I agree. We have the money and the need, and he's the best FA LT. If Oher is able to play, then we have 2 pretty good starters, 2 young back ups in Williams and a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick, plus Remmers who can play (although not extremely well) every position on the line. Kalil, Scott, white buffalo, and Trai fill out our 9 person OL.

I'll Play.

This is a great exercise.  But as a caveat, you need to fill all holes prior to the draft, then look for improvements. We cannot go into the draft not knowing if Oher will play, with Boston as a starter at either safety spot, or with just 1 DE.

Also, some of the costs of some of these FAs I'm seeing is far below the market value estimate at sportrac.  For example CJ is 6 mil, Addison is 7 mil, M Kalil is 7 mil.  I'm all for a hometown discount, but lets be realistic.  Sportrac had Woods projected market value at 8 mil per for goodness sake.  We are not getting him for 4 mil.

I'm cutting Solai, Tolbert, Gradkowski, and maybe the punter, giving me an extra 6 mil or so.  I can't cut Stewie or Dickson until after the draft.  If I get Fournette in the draft, Stewie has to renegotiate to a backup salary.

Defense:

  • Tag/Sign Short $14, Re-sign Love for cheap if possible, (Short,Star,Love, Butler)
  • I re-sign Big Money for $5. Horton gets 1 mil.  Addison market value is $7 = too much.  Big Money, Ealy, Horton and Miley (for now).
  • I welcome back Munnerlyn for $3.5 (Bradberry,Worley,Capn)
  • I have to address S prior to the draft so I snag either Cyprien, Addae, or Swearinger for $4.5. (Coleman moves back to FS.  Boston a backup)
  • LBs - no change (Keuchly,Davis,Shaq,Cash,Jacobs, Mayo)

Offense

  • QBs: no change
  • Line: Give Norwell $4 per. I sign the first of Reiff/Kalil that takes $7 mil per.  If Oher is back, fine - He's my swing tackle.  (Williams,Turner,Kalil,Norwell,Reiff-Kalil with Oher, Larsen, and Yankey as backups (for now).
  • Rockhead replaces Tolbert.
  • TEs: Olsen,Dickson,scrub
  • WR; If I can get Desean Jackson for $7 per (for 2 years), I do it.  I also re-sign Philly for $1.5.  I go in with Benjamin, Funchess, Garrett, Byrd, Jackson, Philly

ST

Gano,P,Jansen.  PR = Bryd or Philly.

So I've spent 44 mil and I have addressed my immediate needs with about 4 mil to spare.  There are places I can improve and save money as well.  I want to come out of this draft with in not particular order a DE, TE, OT, RB, CB/S.

8  Fournette RB.  Now we can save 2-5 mil depending on what we do with stewie.  Consolation prize Solomon Thomas DE.

40  Njoku TE.  Now we can cut Dickson and save 2 mil.  Consolation prize - Budda Baker - FS.  We really need speed in the secondary.

72. Garcia T.  Continue to build the line.  Now we can cut Oher and save 2 mil.  Consolation prize - Eiflein or Leggett if Njoku was not picked at 40.  Zay Jones WR also an option if we didn't get S Jackson in free agency.

99. Awuzie CB - (apparently can play nickel and S too).

113. Kpassagnon DE. - could be a key piece down the road when Ealy contract is up.

154. Switzer WR/PR - Helps if we do not snag Jackson.  Need speed in the slot.

193. Naz Jones - DT.  Need a 5th DT.

222. James Connor RB - Defines "Keep Pounding".  Competes with Cap.

This draft allows me to save about 6 mil, meaning I can now carry over about 10 mil, which I will need for Turner and Star.

CUT:

  • Paul Soliai - $2.5

  • Ed Dickson - $2.05

  • Mike Tolbert - $ 1.75

  • Look for Andy Lee to take a pay cut

RE-SIGN:

  • Franchise tag Kawann Short - $13.2

  • Re-sign Charles Johnson – 2 year deal $10.2

  • Re-sign Mike Remmers – 2 years $12.6

  • Re-sign Kyle Love – 1yr $1.2

  • Re-sign Colin Jones - 2 years $4.4

  • Re-sign Chris Scott – 1yr $1.3

  • Re-sign Andrew Norwell long term – 4 yrs $36

  • Mario Addison will be too pricey for Gman’s taste. Much wiser to re-sign CJ who is not the pass rusher Mario is but is a much better all around DE. Some team will give Mario $9-10 million per year. Dave will gladly take the 3rd round comp pick next year.

  • Gman will let Ted Ginn leave. He’s going to be 32 and is maddening inconsistent. Also, he’s not the punt returner he used to be.    (I’m 50/50 on this. Loosing his speed would really hurt out offense)
