It reminds me of Jared Veldheer back in 2014.  He signed about a 7 million dollar a year deal with the Cards, which isn't too much.  I guess with Reiff being a former first rounder, he could get about that or more, but I don't believe teams will break the bank for him.

Veldheer is also one of the leagues best LTs too. I really wish we went after him. Instead we stuck with Byron Bell because he did a little dance during camp. And also he was left handed.

This is the head coach everyone trusts to put the best on the field. lol

I definitely wouldn't pay Reiff 13 million.  That would be around the highest in the league going into 2017.  Most likely Reiff will be offered a respectable deal by teams, if not a one year prove it.

Reiff is gonna get free agent LT money.

6-8M is free agent RT money.

I would rather pay for a guy who can stay on the field. All the other LTs have heavy injury history, are old as the hills or are gonna be rookies.

As belabored a point as it is, we have too long put off addressing this in the draft, can't (and shouldn't) count on Oher to be back and a rookie will be coming into his own when Cam is getting into his 30s.

We NEED to pay Reiff. Waaaay more than we need to address DE... or any other position.

He is ready and capable now. He WILL be available and he has proven that he can stay on the field.

It is not superstars that make for a good OL (although it doesn't hurt)... it is the same 5 guys being together for long periods of time. Look no further than down 85 to see the proof of that.

First, the cap is 35M more than 2014. And in 2014, there was another solid option(Albert), plus 3 top LT prospects in the draft. This year, there is no one else in his age/quality range, and no LT prospects even worth a 1st round grade.

I think Reiff will sign a deal that's in the $8-9M per year range.

Maybe... but I doubt it.

There is a lot of interest for him around the league. Just Google him and you will see plenty of teams who peg him as a target.

Again... 13M

That's top LT money and where the market will drive his number to, imo.

Is he "worth it"? In a vacuum, no. But in this market, yes.

It's possible. Weak FA class + weak FA class is only going to drive his value up.

Turner has no business at RT. He was the 4th option this year and it showed at times.

Switch him and Williams and you've got yatzi

Side note... love the gamecocks infusion lol.

Too bad you couldn't throw alshon in there too.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
