OJ-Howard Killing 2 birds with 1 stone

This offense needs speed, if we keep drafting size it will continue to struggle.

And how is Howard so talented yet so unproductive? Saban usually gets the most out his players to the point they peak in college, yet this all world TE constantly under produced. Makes no sense.

lower round prospect

TE: Michael Roberts  6'-5" 260

STRENGTHS

When he catches the ball, it matters. Has had over 80 percent of his career catches go for first downs and this season saw 35.5 percent of his catches go for touchdowns (16). Big target with gigantic hands. Quick to open and find the ball on stop routes. Plus body control to adjust and clamp down on throws outside his frame. Will continue to probe and adjust for openings against zone coverage. Very capable run blocker. Operates from strong base and utilizes lengths well. Sinks hips to brace up and neutralize defensive ends with leverage and uses hips and shoulder turn to steer out of the play. Has experience blocking from in-line and from wing spot.

I know many say we WON'T and it is hard to justify him at that high a spot but our tight end is such a key part of our offense it is hard to over look him.  If all those players we covet are gone.  I would have to seriously look into taking him.

Does anyone remember Olsen and Shockey how good that offense was with two big good pass catching TEs?  Granted it was under Chudz offense but Shula's offense is supposed to be a spinoff of this offense.  The way we run the ball it would be easier to make it appear we are going to run and shift to a pass.

I will say, I won't have a nuclear meltdown if he is a Panther on day 1 of the draft.

Not really in receivers..alabama is not a passing team and TE are mainly used in blocking...

With that being said I agree with poster as he would be an ideal because it would help offense in two ways ...I am not sure if he is the best tight end in this class bc I have not watched the other TEs but from what I see from OJ he fits the bill..I think offense should be first seeing how well the defense jelled at the end of the season..My pick would be a TE or SS if there..I like fornette but i just wandering how much playing time would he get with stew being still here..to me it would be a wasted pick...the style of run is about the same..so im not as high on picking him for us. I rather have a SS instead of DE bc teams are doing more quick short passes..the pass rush may not get there in time..rather have a player with great coverage skills with ability to intercept.

TE or SS

Julio Jones and Amari Cooper ring a bell? Howard has finished 3rd in yards and TD two seasons in a row on his own team.

We need WR help way more than TE help.

If you're the overall top player of a talented deep group, that says something. Yes if your system doesn't require TE to block and is heavy focused out of the slot, then a different TE maybe ranked higher. During the senior bowl Howard blew any and all personal that he crossed paths with. The fact that was quiet and did what was asked impressed all coaches.

I've been meaning to start a thread about best guesses as to whos in panthers top eight.

1- garrett

2-thomas

3- hooker

4- fournette

5-adams

6- barrett

7- Allen

8- howard

Taking in all the variables, that's my best guess.
