He's a very good player but just doesn't play a ton since we don't run a lot of 3 LB sets. Drafting another LB wouldn't help this team at all. Shaq will get his chance to shine when TD retires.

He is also probably one of our hardest hitters so I'm not sure what you mean by playing small

I question Shaq's limited usage.  His value should be in the fact we can leave him on the field during nickel situations, but that often doesn't happen.  Considering our struggle with cornerback play this year, Shaq should have seen more snaps.  Ultimately out of the snaps I've seen him play, I'm not confident he can be a star linebacker.  Maybe we won't need him to be a star linebacker such as TD, but if that is what we're expecting him to be or to have a significant level of impact on a game, I'm not seeing it

That's different than being a bust.  Your ire should go to the coaches for misusing/underutilizing him.

We'll see more of him as TD starts to land his plane.

Then leave it at that. You're blind.

Blame his limited usage on the coaching staff, not on his skill set and abilities. It takes injuries to consider younger talent on this team because Rivera can't evaluate the roster.

Recent examples:

Soliai over Love

Remmers over Williams

Ealy over Addison on the left side.

Tolbert over anyone

Wouldn't you think waiting until TD retires to see what Thompson can really do is a bit of a gamble?  Perhaps bust was a little strong on my part, but again if we are expecting Shaq to be a star linebacker, I should be seeing a little more flash.  Yes, he's had hard hits, but I wouldn't exactly call it game changing at this moment.

For me its too much of a gamble to wait.  Of course some of you have told me he's made plays that indicate his potential.  He's had good hits and showed coverage skills.  My thing is, I've yet to see a consistent amount of plays in a game to say he is probowl worthy.  I do admit I was strong in my rebuke in Shaq, but probowl worthiness is my expectation from him considering where we took him.  I mistakenly remembered him as being a player we traded up to get, but he was probably worth a 2nd round grade.  I remember someone saying the Cowboys would have taken him with their 1st if we didn't, but I have to say so far I wouldn't have mind if that happened.

Shaq played 57% of the snaps last year. And according to PFF( just an example for consistency) at a high level. Someone may have the exact numbers. This after receiving high grades from them for his rookie year. Davis has already stated he has no problem relinquishing snaps to Shaq going forward.

Bottom line...if you think Shaq's a bust, in any way, it says a lot more about your inability to comprehend what you see on a football field, than it does his ability to play it.

Someone already responded to this...

Welcome to the bandwagon category.

If you saw Shaq play, you know he is gonna be a very good player for us for years to come. One of the really solid ones who will be a career Panther.

Advocate Foster... sure... but back off of the Shaq hate.

Here is what you say...

"I was wrong about Thompson. Thanks for the redirect. However, Foster is a special talent who should warrant consideration".

To put this in perspective, virtually everyone agrees that we need an upgrade at slot WR and our #3 WR only played 45% of snaps.

IMO, this season may see the beginning of the handing of the torch from TD to Shaq. I think we'll see Shaq take a few more snaps a game in TD's place and given TD's age and wear and tear, I don't think that's a bad thing.
