Donta Foreman bandwagon RB Texas

First heard his name in the delven cook film review that was posted recently. In that video the reviewer said Foreman was the best blocking running back in this draft. At 250 pounds this made sense, and I expected to see a big plodding running back. Then I found this video.

WOW!

This kind of size and speed is pretty amazing and I am all in on this kid. The early ranking show him as an early second-round pick, so if we can get him in a second that would be great. If we could get Adams at 8, or if she's not there trade down to get Howard later in the first, and then pick this kid up in the second I'd be very excited.

Anyone more familiar with his game?

The issue is his lack of creativity. He's a pure power back, and even worse than Fournette by a large margin at receiving.

I wanted him at first, but I've heard his numbers have been inflated due to his conference. He arguably can be good - just there are a lot of other RB's we could utilize ahead of him at this point.

Some people do not realize that Jstew's playing weight is pretty close to 250...

That said, this guy is not to be confused with Stewart.

The knock on Foreman dang sure isn't his production but rather if it will translate to the next level. He lacks the ability to make quick cuts and some question his intelligence.

That is to say, he is a bowling ball that wins with power and his top gear... something that could meet a rude awakening when he meets NFL defenses and D Coordinators.

If DG likes him... sure, a day 2 pick.

Money is still heavy on Fournette or Kamara (who is basically the polar opposite of Foreman) if we go another direction in the 1st.

Foreman is a project for the NFL. He runs upright (difficult to coach), he carries the ball loosely (coachable but see Adrian Peterson or Tiki Barber for examples of "success"). He was I believe graded as the worst pass blocking back by PFF, and he does very little in the passing game in general. If he learns to drop his pad level and hold on to the ball he can be a Stephen Davis or Alfred Morris type. If he can't, he will go the way of the Eric Sheltons that the NFL chews up and spits out year after year.

Thing is hes a better fit for us than cook because this very reason.  What makes Cook so good is his versatility.  He's small and when he's not running behind that massive FSU OL which is like Dallas's of the NCAA most of you will be highly dissapointed.  But He can catch the ball and do things in the open field damn well almost like Jamal Charles.  Problem is we dont use our RBs like KC does.

Lets take a look at our offense.

What Shula Does:

Smash mouth between the tackle runs.

Zone read power runs with the RBs

What Shula doesnt do:

Outside runs

Use the Rbs in passing game- Our RBs are targeted possibly the least out of the RBs in the league.  In 3rd down situations all they do is

A. Block

B. Draw plays up the middle to catch teams off guard

So worrying about his lack of productivity in the passing is beyond dumb.  A 250 pound bruiser between the tackle RB fits a Smash mouth between the tackle run offense to a T.

He does run upright which is a little worrysome, But he does no less than Derrick Henry last year.  On Film he is a Derrick Henry 2.0 but seems to have a extra gear Henry didnt have.  The fumbling is a redflag, but it is possible to get fixed.  Someone brought up Tiki Barber.  Tiki had a major fumbling issue (one of the worst in the league)  he fixed it and finished off his career with one of the least ammount of fumbles in the league over the last few seasons.  Deshawn Foster had major redflags over fumbling when we drafted him and still had some his first year or 2.   By the end he cleaned that problem up real well.

The only thing that worries me is his pass blocking.  That can set back young RBs in this league.  I believe it was mentioned here thats what CAP has struggled the most with since being here and hes been lept deactivated unless Stewart is hurt

He doesn't have a lot of wiggle. Power vision, blocking and acceleration are his he gets through the hole quickly

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
