An off-season plan...

I felt that before I could really comment on others thoughts on the off-season, I would sling my own poo on the wall and see what sticks. Feel free to pick it apart. For reference sake, I think G-man has done a great job for the most part. He could have done more last year, but I still understand his moves, whether I agreed or not.

We have about 50M in space. Plus these easy cuts.

J-Stew- cut and resign for 2.5. Save 3.7M

Over- save 2.5. Not sure how this will work with injury?

 Solitaire-2.5M

Dickson-2M

Tolbert-1.5M

That's 12.2M more while losing only what we want rid of any how. Not to mention the 7M we have tied up in our K and P. But we'll go with 62M for now.

I'm not a big trade/free agent guy, but there is no choice. 1st, as everyone has stated, address LT. Not with a hope. With a damn near guarantee(barring injury). Cam, Ron, Gman and more should be on Andrew Whitworths front porch at midnight off the day FA opens. You know what you're getting. At worst, he's a top 10 LT if he regresses. He's top 5 right now. Doesn't cost picks. Won't require long term contract. Rather overpay for two years than 5. Perfect mentor to a young project OT. Won't be worried about next contract. Give him 2/26 and make him get on plane with you.

If that falls through, Peters is an option. Would probably cost a late pick if he's not cut. Much riskier, but still very good and has been healthy lately. Probably have to offer him the same. If Whitworth is off market, he'll have leverage.

Then there's Riley Rieff. Would much rather explore trade options for Thomas or Staley, but that's probably unrealistic. Although it shouldn't be. I saw another poster mention paying Reiff 13M/yr and almost threw up. But look at the options. Every scenario I just hoped for above could never even be available to us. Now it's a question of how much a team will pay for average. Because every other option after Reiff is a Oher type lottery ticket. We have too much money and value picks to go back to next season with uncertainty at LT. And we have to replace Remmers. This is where a Kalil, Joeckel, Vollmer for 3-5M would be OK. Bottom line, by any means necessary, fix it. I'm putting 18M, or our 2nd and 3rd round picks out there. Whatever it takes.

With the probable tag of KK(17M), that still leaves 27M. And none of that is long term(except if its Reiff). Won't affect signings in future.

If that's taken care of, there's really only one player I would make a play for. Eric Berry. Duh. I'll pay for elite. 4/48 in a heartbeat. Still could have 15M to work with, and could concentrate on RB, DE, and TE in the draft. He's a pipe dream.

Just the first steps. Too early to pinpoint much on picks. I would prefer to be able to take Fournette or best DE available, but without Berry, it would be hard to pass on Adams or Hooker if LF is gone.

i would be thrilled if this came to be. however, i doubt stew is taking 2.5m. i would still consider cutting him even though i dont want to at all.

also, i cant figure out who solitaire is that you are cutting.

im definitely replacing gano with a late round if i can.

Paul Soliai DT- I had forgot about him too. Auto correct.

And I don't see any team giving him more than that. Over 30 RBs, with frequent injuries, and a 3.8 YPC don't command much. We know how valuable he is because of what poo he has run behind at times. And even with Fournette, I want him back. But he has little leverage. No other team is going to sign him as their primary RB.

Cut Jonathan Stewart and draft one of the stud RB's in this years draft. With the cap savings we can go out and address our needs through free agencies. We can not hold on to an aging RB that's injury prone, unless he is willing to take a major pay cut.

We can't just let J Stew go like that, when healthy he is a huge asset to this team, bigger than a lot of people realize. I am all down for drafting Fournette but also while keeping Stewart.

    • It amuses me how Goff's name the last few years is often used to compare to subpar or underperforming QB's. Now on the surface I get it. But when you look at his numbers he's been the same QB all along. He's improved his completion % but even with the Rams he averaged 63.4. And that Super Bowl he played in they should have won honestly. If we can get a QB as good as Goff I'll be pretty damn pleased.
    • And it remains to be seen if Goff has that ability or not. Plenty of very good QB's like Goff were not able to get over those playoff humps. Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, etc. You can still be an upper tier QB and never get over that hurdle. McVay just thought(and hasn't been wrong yet) Goff was never going to be that guy.
    • You literally simply have to think logically for either of those guys. Smith is locked up on a deal for 2025, so we would have to trade for him or he gets cut. Neither of those scenarios are likely in the first place.  Wilson will be 37 in 2025. Why on earth would he have any interest in a situation that is far worse than he was given in Denver and wasn't able to win there? He's a guy that can drop into any ready to win franchise in the NFL and immediately elevate their chances of winning(provided they already have QB issues).  Frankly, that is either speculation that even David Newton should be embarrassed by or it shows how disconnected with reality some people in our organization are.   I do agree with him on getting a veteran QB, however. That's our best chance to keep developing our talent.
