Took a go at a mock draft

So I have seen a few people doing the fanspeak mock draft simulator and figured I'd give it a go. Some how managed to end up with my dream scenario.

I know many of you don't care for small school players but Basham and Rivers were both standouts at the senior bowl and the Panthers need to come away with at least one DE from this draft. Pocic is one of the top rated centers and has been Fournette's teammate for a few years. Would be a great pick in the 3rd. (realistically I would flip the Basham and Pocic picks) John Ross may be my favorite player in the draft. Instant starter at PR/KR and may be the fastest player in the draft. If Fournette isn't there at 8 I would love to trade down and take him later in the first.

8: R1P8
RB LEONARD FOURNETTE
LSU
40: R2P8

WR JOHN ROSS
WASHINGTON
72: R3P8

OBI MELIFONWU
UCONN
99: R3P35

EDGE TARELL BASHAM
OHIO
113: R4P8

ETHAN POCIC
LSU
153: R5P8

EDGE DEREK RIVERS
YOUNGSTOWN STATE

I'd love obi in the 2nd so if he somehow lasts until the third that'd be great. LF and JR would jump start this offense. Idk the other guys but tbh doesn't really matter who the rest are if we get these 3 guys lol.

on a side note, I love mock drafts, but why does everyone post draft content in the main forum? whats the point of a draft sub forum if no ones uses it? (yes i know its the offseason)

Not a fan of Ross.  Alabama shut him down, wasn't a factor at all.

Alabama shut the entire team down. Browning got sacked like 5 times and was completely shook. Washington only had like 50 yards of offense in the second half and I don't think over 200 for the entire game.

Can't really be a factor if your entire team gets completely demolished.

That is a dream scenario... Jesus, how did that get pulled off, lol.

FYI, I don't just auto draft. I research each team (and have a staff/big board/projections) and use Fanspeak as a medium to track players coming off the board. I draft for each team.

You'd like this Fanspeak draft (using CBS draft board) I did yesterday. It was 100% impossible to not draft Cook even with Fournette. Like getting better Stewart/DeAngelo on 4 year rookie contracts. Hurney would murder for this draft.

I would die if that draft happened! BTW  I would rather have McCaffrey instead of cook!

He wasn't there, but a draft where our picks through the 4th are Fournette, Cook, Leggett, Zay and Eddie Jackson is a dream scenario. Tag Short, Sign Whitworth or Peters to have a LT until a late round project or wait for it, a better draft with good tackles. Some decent FA DEs and corners. This team could be legendary with that offensive firepower. If Shula can't score 30 a game in weeks 1-4, he's gone. I'd love to gone him now, but it is what it is. You'd have the RBs to easily rival Atlanta (likely better). You might not have Julio, but KB, Funchess (I like him more than you), Zay and Ginn is pretty formidable. Olsen and Leggett is light freaking years ahead of Hooper, light years. You have Cam instead of Melty Ice and you have a defense that is better.

I dig it, but I'm predicting there is going to be a breakout slot player, maybe Brown or FA/draft who will eventually become #2

Alabama has also shut down Fournette multiple times......

No way Ross falls to the second

It's more likely that Ross could fall to the 2nd than it is that the UConn FS could fall to the third. He's no longer under-the-radar.

I like Ross, but after Cooper Kupp and Zay Jones were so impressive at the Senior Bowl, I could see them jumping Ross in the draft. Especially Zay Jones.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
