If Fournette , Adams, Hooker, Allen are off the board, maybe a very small chance. Still highly unlikely given the talent pool that's going to be there, and also it's hard to rationalize picking CM over Cook still sitting there. I don't think he fits the team well enough to be taken with #8 though. If he somehow drops to the 2nd round I could see the Panthers trading up a few spots to snag him though. 

Given that DG has picked at Linebacker and Defensive Tackle the last two drafts, I expect him to do something like that again if the obvious above talents are all off the board and pick the top CB , OT, or OJ Howard. And I think all of that would happen before he picked McCaffrey at 8.

This is a deep and talented RB class also. They may believe there may be a scenario where both Cook and Fournette are gone.

The Panthers need a running back desperately. They have failed to find the undrafted free agent or 5th rounder to fill Stewarts shoes.
