Leonard Fournette: Better than AP

Better than Earl Campbell?

I really haven't bothered reading this thread. But if that comparison has been thrown out there, that's bs. There will never be another Earl Campbell. Big Men running can't happen in the NFL. Look at Gurly, breaking down already. If Stew hadn't split carries with DWill, he'd be out of the NFL by now.

That is what the guy in the video was saying.  According to the video he crushed the highest miles per hour achieved in the NFL at 20 pounds heavier than the top guy Xavier Rhodes.  Then he said he is the next Earl Campbell and better than AP because AP cant block or catch.

As someone who is usually against RBs in the 1st round, you don't pass up a talent like LF. Watched him for 3 years. He's got the extra gear and superior power. Never had even an average QB option with him. No RB is going to run on Bama when Sagan doesn't respect the passing game.

there is a difference in the talent level, Fournette is just better overall football player.

(All pro) Fournette >  (pro) Adams

I think that chart is "cute." It's definitely made for people like us who are probably way too invested in football and fanaticism. Some want it to mean more than it does, but it is essentially  just a reference, purportedly based upon the opinions of professional scouts, analysts and other experts---the same as mocks, big boards, and scouting reports---to familiarize ourselves with the top prospects. Even if we use it as one of the many tools to form our overall opinion, the only opinions that matter are the owners', coaches' and GMs'. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all these types of tools, including ones that try and quantify a player's future impact in the league, but at the end of the day it's still just a guess.

That said, I believe that Fournette has the potential to have the greater impact upon this team and more prolific career, and I absolutely think that he'll be the pick if he's there. If Gettleman liked Gurley, as was reported, then he likely likes Fournette even more. I just don't know if Fournette is going to be there.  If he's gone and Adams is there, then I can see us taking Adams, but like the chart suggests, I believe that Adams is closer to the rest of the pack than many think. As such, I believe it's more of a crap shoot as to whether G-man will pull the trigger on him when there are a couple of receivers, a TE and some defensive guys that are within the same range.

It's going to come down to how G-man has these guys graded.

* He said he is a better PROSPECT than AP because AP can't block or catch but Fournette has the skillset to achieve success at those two things at the next level. Didn't say he was outright better. Just that he has the potential to be better.

Good point, but the sense I got from DGs  presser earlier in the year  was that the coaches are going to have more input in the decision. There was a whole rant about drafting players that didn't  fit the scheme, subtle nod to Rivera.

I don't know if he actually said "more" input. Since he has been here, he has always exclaimed the coaches' involvement in the process. If there was something that I missed, please enlighten me, but I can't say for sure that there is some marked change in philosophy as it pertains to scouting the team's needs. I may be optimistic if such a change occurred.

I agree with others that this is just the opinion of nfl.com, and teams probably have varying grades on the player, but it does give you an idea of the concept of "tiers" for players.

By this format you have:

Tier 1: Garrett

Tier 2: Fournette

Tier 3: 11 players

Every team might be different.  For some it might be

Tier 1: 3 players

Tier 2: 4 players

Tier 3: 6 players

Personally this is where I think the idea of trading down comes into play.  If a tier one player is still there at 8 you take him and consider yourself lucky.  lf all of the tier 1 and 2 players are gone maybe you try to trade down. I'm not saying trade down to 18 but stay in range of the next tier of players that you like.

I would not pass on Luke Kuechly of offense.

The lower you drop the less chance of you getting to pick the player you want.
