Leonard Fournette: Better than AP

If he shreds the combine the Jags will probably take him before week pick. If he has a dismal or mediocre combine then its really up to the Panthers to draft him, I don't see any other teams in the top 7 that need a running back more than the lineman , dbs, and qbs that are more important to their team needs.

Also the Jags could fall in love with Cook instead of fournette as well. So.. who knows.

I think if there are no QBs drafted before us and all the primier DBs and lineman are gone by 8, the Panthers will probably pick fournette by default. Just the BPA at that point, no point in reaching for a 2-3rd round grade mediocre lineman of this draft and the draft is stacked at WR , DB, and DE.

Even if you still don't want fournette, that was a really well done video on him as a prospect. I look forward to his Cook video later this week and any other prospects he plans on doing as well.

I really don't think he'll be there at 8. We could see Cook gone also depending on how QB and DE hungry the top 7 will be. Our hope would be Watson moving up purely because of need (SF, CHI). If Watson, Trubinsky and Kiser have a good combine we may get our pick of the two.

Jacksonville is RB hungry so they'll pick one most likely. We can't afford NOT drafting Cook if he's there though. This Panther running game has to be fixed. It's the main reason Cam has been put in harms way as a statue with inadequate blindside protection, even with Oher at times.

As far as behavior is concerned, I'm not as worried because of this strong locker room we've got here these leaders of men like TD,Luke, Olsen, Cam. Rookies will know what time it is.

Until we get rid of the read option we are going to waste any running back who plays here. At the NFL level defenses are just to fast for the read option to truly showcase a running backs talents. Even when our running game has put up yards under Shula it's done so by sheer repetition and not from efficiency. So while I think Fournette is a promising young talent I don't want him here unless we decide to completely eliminate the read option from our playbook and go to a more traditional offense with one cut, power runs with a fullback leading the way. It would be a shame to waste another guy that talented in our highschool level offense.

I'd be fine with Cook or Fournette at this point. They could both have success here but the key is Shula actually smart enough to adapt the offense to their skillset.

If its Cook, then he will be wasted if we just run him up the gut all the time like with Stewart. its obvious speed in space is Cook's strongest point so there would have to be more calls for outside runs or directional runs at least. He'd excell in the read option format we have , although if we keep using it too much defenses will eat it alive. Shula would also have to call more dump offs and screen passes to the running back to give Cook more chances to work his magic in the open field.

If its Fournette, the Panthers need to get a true FB from somewhere. Do much less read option, run more traditional power run schemes, I formation. Use play action with regularity and let Fournette absorb alot of the attention that would free up Ginn or whatever speed burner we have streaking down the field with regularity. Even with Fournette Shula still needs to call more checkdowns to the RB and some occasional passes to him Fournette has the ability to catch and run as well.

Fournette is a damn tank with the speed of a bugatti. I said the same thing based off watching his highlights, when he hits the second level and picks up speed nobody can stop him.  You have to neutralize him at the hole or its gonna be a long day. Having to deal with fournette and cam newton is problems nobody is gonna want.

Haven't you all been listening to Rivera this offseason.  He's been telling anyone willing to listen that we are going to change the offense and move away from Cam as the primary run threat.  The only reason for the read option was that it took advantage of what Cam brought to the table.  Neither Rivera nor Shula were run option guys before Cam, so there's no reason to think they are locked into it as some sort of fundamental offensive principle.

If we get Fournette, I have zero doubt that we will adapt our running game to what he does best.  That fits their pre-Cam history as well as their mantra to limit Cam in the running game.  I'm sure we would still see the read option occasionally just to keep defenses honest, but our run base would be more RB centric than QB centric.
