Leonard Fournette: Better than AP

I don't think he'll be there at 8, but it's kind of a no brainer we'll take him if he falls. We also need a bigger and stronger O-line to improve the running game. We get our wins against lesser teams by pushing their D-line around and running at will. The stronger the O-line, the more teams we can push around.

I think I liked him more before I saw the video. Do we think DG will bring in a FB? Do we think Shula will use a FB? If we are going to stick with the read-option, then maybe he isn't our guy.

I think the comparisons to AP are accurate. That said, go look at some recent game tape of AP in Minnesota's read-option offense. He looks like garbage because it is a horrible offensive scheme that puts the rb at a significant disadvantage. The rb has to stand there flat footed and wait for the ball while the LBs pursue. Put him behind a FB and he destroys.

I think that is exactly what we can expect out of Fournette.

    • I don't have that stat available - https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/nfl-rookie-receiving-yards-leaders-2024 The number was discussed here and it was normal among *all WR. It just felt more cause a couple of those drops were back breakers. I know one drop he caught 95% of the ball, I think it was the eagles drop.  I think you always look at the whole side, he had a good rookie yardage and TD year with some poorly timed drops. He can improve and he can can slump. Sure he could have played better, same time he could have played much worse too. He was the 32nd player drafted, not some top 5-10 savior. I thought he had good rookie year with ups and downs. Knowing he did so with lack of reps due to injuries and he kept playing with questionable QB play, that looks to me like he can improve his level of play. Not on the stats either, he looked good blocking too, many big gains he was helping with down field blocks.
