So I was doing some stuff on line and had a little pop up box pop up that said

widows defender alert: zeus virus detected on your computer.  Please do not shut down or reset your computer.  the following data will be compromised if you do so

passwords

browser history

credit card information

local hard disc

the virus is well known and mostly distributed through porn sites.  commonly used to steal personal and financial information from the infected device.  Please call microsoft to rectify the issue and get your pc unlocked.  toll free helpline at 844-244-7965

so is this a scam or is my puter infected?  I was not even viewing any porn when this box popped up but when I clicked it off there was a porn site open. When I checked my puter it said I had windows defender turned off - I am running microsoft security essentials.   Help !

Yeah its a scam.  I see that sometimes, and I just hit control alt delete, shut down my browser application, and start again.

Fwiw, it seems to happen a lot on the huddle.

Yeah I get some strange redirects on the huddle sometimes but have never seen a pop up like this one before.
