Mike Greenberg has Cam's back more than Ron Rivera

I wondered if anyone would catch this. I should have known. LOL.

Greeny was trying to bait Ron into speaking out more definitely and forcefully against the refs. Ron parroted the company line, and Greeny didn't stand down, and basically told Ron that the refs/NFL had no excuse. Ron stayed on message by saying another ref is needed to watch the QB.

Each guy was politically correct in their position. Greeny kind of skirted the edge of political correctness by saying "No, it's not alright," when Ron was being a slightly mealymouthed, but the exchange was very civil.

For the record, I belueve that Rivera is almost assuredly parroting a position from on high. Jerry Richardson is the person who should have stepped in and said something.

Can you, or anyone else in here tell me for certain that Jerry hasn't said something to The Roger?  Anyone?

The answer is no....because billionaires don't act like hollywood elites or Donald Trump and tweet every time they get butt hurt.

Ron "sticking up" for Cam will do nothing except maybe make the refs look the other way even more.  By Ron not saying much, Greeny got the message out to the public better than Ron ever could.

We know that the refs are purposefully not protecting Cam, but Ron will have little to no effect on this.....Jerry may, but only behind the scenes.

I do not understand this owner or coach...Why would you pick Cam Newton as your Qb when you knew he was already a hot topic and not a positive hot topic..Pick him and then not support him in no type of way..Its not like Cam chose the Panthers but the panthers chose him...Cam has been a model citizen but no support from his owner nor coach...I can not include Gettlemen because he was not here when Cam was picked and he does defend Cam to some degree.

Thats been SUCH an effective strategy so far by Ron "I'd have taken a shot too" Rivera.

You realize that Ron was an NFL linebacker, right? Anyone who has ever played defense in the NFL would love to pop a QB leisurely strolling into the end zone like Cam did on that play. That include Thomas Davis, Luke Keuchly, Etc. (albeit not intentionally in the head) Cam has proved that calling out the refs is a lose/lose. Not to mention that no one knows what type of communication Ron, DG, and/or JR has had with the league regarding these hits outside of public view.

You realize that there are times that the frank and honest truth might be better kept to yourself and a more diplomatic non-statement called for in defense of your player?  Instead of shoving him under the bus and rolling over him back-and-forth a few times?

Or are you one of the rare, brave "honest" men that answer "yes" when their wives ask them "do these pants make me look fat?"

Its that lady in Tennessee...

Overall public sentiment towards Cam. BSPN and others have created a dialogue that people believe about Cam.

I had a buddy tell me last week 'the Panthers need to get rid of Cam.' U asked him Why? Same old negative bs the media has said for 7-8 years about Cam.

If Coach Rivera can't stand up, who will?

The thing Ron doesn't understand is that if he actually stood up for Cam it would put more pressure on the refs to officiate him fairly.

They won't be able to let him get killed out out there if everyone puts the spotlight on them. It would clearly show the league has it out for him.

I don't know if Jerry has said anything behind the scenes.

I am not one who believes in keeping silent on what could be consequential matters. I believe in the weight of public opinion and public pressure. The NFL refs aren't above ethics and morality. As an owner, Richardson ultimately is their boss. Public silence is not the enemy when righteousness is on your side. Sometimes public sentiment is the only thing that ultimately changes things.

Just thinking about it, perhaps J-Rich hasn't said anything publicly because he ultimately doesn't want to rock his applecart. The NFL already has enough public perception issues.

Rivera should not try to defend the refs.  It may be due to his size that the refs are not calling the penalties, but it is not his job to defend the refs. His job is to defend his QB who is not being subjected to the same calls for all other QBs.  I think that Ron is saying those things because he as a player or ref would do the same thing..in all honesty he sees why these things are happening because he is somewhat co siding with the refs just like he did when Cam got the concussion. I am not a believer in Rivera. That is why when we need 1 yd  to ice a game Rivera will not choose Cam ...I don't think he truly believes in Cam...At some point you have to stand for something you can not play both sides and in many ways Rivera has already showed us who he sides with.

Cam will never show his full potential with this team as long as he has Rivera as a coach.

Agreed.

Rivera is a coward.

"Playing politics" is straight up bullshit. Call it what it is and just say Ron doesn't really have a backbone. I don't know many coaches that would stand by that treatment of their franchise QB. This whole organization tries to be so PC, even down to the players sometimes. Just say wtf it is: it's bullshit. Your quarterback--Jerry, Dave, Ron--taking the shots he's taken with absolutely no calls but watching Carson Wentz slide, get his shoulder hit and get an UR call or Tom Brady get dragged down and throwing a fit to get a call. Like, they should all be pissed off. A few of us said months ago that Cam shouldn't even have had to speak out. The coaches should've done it week one. He organization should've done it.

Jerry has to say something. But Ron is weak sauce.
