Mike Greenberg has Cam's back more than Ron Rivera

Ron Rivera was on Mike&Mike this morning and they discussed the lack of calls Cam receives. Instead of Ron defending Cam, he brought up the old tired argument about Cam's size (comparing him to Shaq once again) and that the refs have a hard time officiating him. Mike Greenberg said that it doesn't matter what size Cam is since he keeps getting hit in the head and that other quarterbacks do get those calls. It's sad when your own coach doesn't have your back in a situation like this. That's why NOTHING will change.

Here are some reactions to the interview:

I wondered if anyone would catch this. I should have known. LOL.

Greeny was trying to bait Ron into speaking out more definitely and forcefully against the refs. Ron parroted the company line, and Greeny didn't stand down, and basically told Ron that the refs/NFL had no excuse. Ron stayed on message by saying another ref is needed to watch the QB.

Each guy was politically correct in their position. Greeny kind of skirted the edge of political correctness by saying "No, it's not alright," when Ron was being slightly mealymouthed, but the exchange was very civil.

For the record, I believe that Rivera is almost assuredly parroting a position from on high. Jerry Richardson is the person who should have stepped in and said something.

Fug this politically correct coaching staff and franchise. As some point, you gotta nut up and protect your own godamn players and say the hell with the league. Weak Rivera, can we get a fuggin coach with a backbone? For a great LB and a military background, Ron sure is a pussy tbh

I don't think that Greeny was trying to bait Rivera into saying anything. Rivera just needs to stop trying to excuse the lack of calls on Cam due to his size. That's what annoys me the most about the situation.

I do agree that JR needs to step up and say something. He should've stepped up publicly a long time ago.

I kinda would agree with you, but I don't think there is any way that Greeny didn't know about Rivera's response to the issue earlier this season. The story was rightfully a big talking point. No way Greeny didn't know Ron's stated position!

Rivera should not try to defend the refs.  It may be due to his size that the refs are not calling the penalties, but it is not his job to defend the refs. His job is to defend his QB who is not being subjected to the same calls for all other QBs.  I think that Ron is saying those things because he as a player or ref would do the same thing..in all honesty he sees why these things are happening because he is somewhat co siding with the refs just like he did when Cam got the concussion. I am not a believer in Rivera. That is why when we need 1 yd  to ice a game Rivera will not choose Cam ...I don't think he truly believes in Cam...At some point you have to stand for something you can not play both sides and in many ways Rivera has already showed us who he sides with.

Cam will never show his full potential with this team as long as he has Rivera as a coach.

    • Morgan has been advertising a trade on Ebay and Marketplace on FB.  That tells me they are not sold on Walker.  I think you are right--Emmanwori is their target, but after Morgan's rookie year as a GM and XL blabbing what he was told (I would assume that this is one of the reasons you never tell a prospect you will draft him) I am assuming that embarrassed Morgan to some degree--and it may have hurt his credibility.  Remember, he has to negotiate with players, agents, and GMs--so I am guessing that this year, he will be keeping it close to the vest.  I do not understand the Panthers skipping a pro day and then drafting a player when it was right down I 85.  It don't smell none to good.  I think it makes more sense that they have discounted both players.  About the Walker rumor--they have looked at him twice, I believe.  Fuel for the fire. His dad coached at Catawba as an assistant, Coastal Carolina, and got the head coach job at Catawba--a local boy, and the Panthers have a history of drafting local players recently (Ickey, Horn, for example).  If one or two people get on that train, it is often repeated and whipped into a rumor.  I think they could draft a WR (Golden is my guess).  To me, the empty safety spot is glaring--we did not sign blackmon and he remains unsigned.  Curious.  Morgan's comments about the WR room being good--curious.  And then there is Moton and his knee.   I have heard that we could draft an OT (if BPA) and possibly trade Moton--that was on a Panther podcast.  Did something happen in that development that caused the Panthers to change directions, skipping the UGA pro day?  Hmmmm. I will say this:  I think the Panthers really like Princely.   We shall see.  But Chris SImms pissed me off when he bashed Walker, but his points were valid--not his assessment.
    • For sure I just think he is Uber talented and teams know it.   If he's there at 57 is a no brainer I just don't think it's going to be an option
    • Williams would be an Edge for us. We only have Wonnum and Clowney one more year.
