Wait, Michael Oher Never Cleared Concussion Protocol?

Read this morning he's been working out for about 3 weeks on his own but has not been cleared to participate in team activities.

I won't be surprised if he retires- there's no head injury and 5 months of recovery worth it.

Wish him the best going forward and hope we don't have to hear about CTE or ALS in the future.

If he retires, especially injury related what are the Cap ramifications?

Cause he still has a big number.

3/6/2015: Signed four-year, $24.45 million contract. The deal contains $9.5 million guaranteed. 2016-2019: Under Contract, 2020: Free Agent

But I agree, he probably should just retire.

I know they monitor for concussions during the games and have a serious (supposedly) process for neutral, professional review. Do they have anything in place for practices?

It seems that no one is exactly sure when he received the concussion, could he have gotten it in practice one day and just slipped through?

I hope the best for Oher. If he can safely continue playing, great. If not, then he did a fine job playing LT for the best team the Panthers have ever fielded.

But, I 100% agree with those saying that we should be moving forward with our roster assuming he's played his last snap.

100% agree

That's what I'm thinking because something isn't right I'm starting to think he got this concussion before the Vikings game probably in another game probably in the game against the damn 49ers I don't know but damn if nobody knows when I happen since there needs to be some serious questions asked on how they monitor for concussions or if they are proficient at doing that

If he retires I'm pretty sure we're free and clear on cap ramifications. Technically speaking he'd have to pay back any unearned bonus money. That's where injury settlement entire the picture and honestly I don't know how those are handled as far as the cap goes.

Griffin head butt the hell out of him early on.  He shouldn't have kept playing

tbh it's going to take time to teach players how to tackle differently, to fit the rules of todays pro football. Until they catch up, it's the job of the NFLs officials to protect all NFL players without bias. If only the officials were full time, like every other NFL employee.

I don't think that's the problem I think it's incompetence and giving someone who isn't good at their job who is part time full-time hours won't change that , might help a little bit with adding experience but that IS NOT the problem . What it is however is SOME of these people just aren't good at their jobs and they aren't held accountable and until they are held accountable and Punished accordingly just like the players and and coaches and every other person who works for the NFL they will never change. I just don't see where this line of thinking comes from.... increased time with well displayed mediocrity isn't going to change the fact that it's mediocre in fact gives it more opportunity to be just that, mediocre!
But it's a multifaceted issue that stems from the rules and how complex and intricate and wildly complicated they are to the people enforcing them to the players themselves so it's just not a easy issue to fix and it'll never be easy to fix... so like you said until everything catches up we have to depend on the officials which we know aren't that dependable so don't hold your breath.

That's why I said NFL so many times. It's up to the NFL to stop their so called illegal hits, and yet no call.

I get concussions will happen, no matter the rules. But if the officials can't discern an illegal hit, maybe more training is needed. Which means giving up the job at H&R Block in the spring.

It's possible he was concussed prior to that game and he played through and suffered maybe another one or something. I like Mike, but I don't think he will play. I'd rather him retire anyway and be healthy long term than to play. 4 months in protocol? That's.....it's just not good.
