Panthers like Troy OT Antonio Garcia

I like him, but he gets overdrafted and not by us. The tackles at the senior bowl were not impressive, however Garcia held his own and played with aggression. Zach Banner's fat ass actually played well to his strengths, length and power, didn't get beat inside. Aside from those 2 guys the senior bowl had nothing at OT.

how come most Huddlers assume that DT or DE prospects are always better than OL prospect.

It took couple of seasons to adjust but majority of OT's taken in last couple of season are top 30 according to PFF & the eye test doesn't lie either.

Because DE, DT and MLB are the positions to draft when you are a new GM inheriting a lousy team with a good or better QB. Each of those three positions can make an immediate impact if you get the right guy with an early draft pick. Defense doesn't outweigh offense in importance, but it is the fastest way to make a team competitive.

We've seen that here at the beginnings of both he Hurney and Gettleman regimes.

That's why there's an overall perception. That's compounded by the fact that O-linemen don't have any positive stats that you can root for. A DE or DT can get sacks and tackles, maybe even passes defensed. All are positive numbers. O-linemen its "sacks/hits allowed" which isn't exactly going to get you at the edge of your seat going "come on Oher, just 8 more minutes, keep blocking without getting a penalty!"

Offensive linemen, particularly tackles, are insanely important, incredibly hard to pick and get none of the credit that they deserve, just the jeers when someone gets through to sack the QB. So the average fan just doesn't get excited over them.

Me, I think they're great. The game is won at the line of scrimmage.

This is exactly why THIS is the draft for Gettleman to be aggressive. If we can trade our second and other assets to get another late to mid 1st rounder he could draft an impact player(scorer/speed) at 8 and add a first round grade tackle. That alone would bolster this offense. A Fournette/Cook, that TE, a guy like McCaffrey who also is a ST ace is also a mid to late 1st option.

That and a non-passive free agency (DE,OL)and we're back in shape.

Fournette would have far bigger impact or even OJ Howard.

2 key position you need to beat elite defense in the playoffs.

Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, Couple of Auburn busts, Ifedi that the Seahawks took and is now a guard. Several busts by 1st round OT recently. Jake Matthews has played well. Tyron Smith has played well. I think high picks on OT have shown a tendency to bust. I'm not saying that we should not draft an OT at all, but no guys in 2017 are worth 8.

I think the problem with this strategy is that there may not be a "1st round tackle" in this draft. There are no Jack Conklins or Laremy Tunsils dropping due to smoking weed or even Taylor Deckers in this draft.

Look at all the OTs for the Senior Bowl that people wanted to watch. Zach Banner, Anthony Garcia, Conor McDermott, Dion Dawkins, Julien Davenport, Forrest Lamp etc. So far, some have looked OK, but a lot of talk is guys looking poor (McDermott), not measuring up (Garcia, Bisnowaty), being just OK (Banner), being projects (Davenport) or likely moving to guard (Lamp and Dawkins).

You know those years where the QBs just plain are missing in a draft? Well, this year sure seems like the 1st round OTs are guys we've watched (Ramzcyk and Robinson) and haven't really been super impressed. Some good plays or games, but then some not so good against NFL prospects. Bolles is an older rookie and wasn't expected to declare, so still have to investigate.

I know we are pumped for replacing our current OTs, but based on the FAs and draft prospects, we are likely going to have to hit on a hidden gem that gets it quick or take a guy who didn't measure up/looks like a guard and plays better than his measurements. I'd be fine for loading up on a bunch of these potential guys, but I really don't want to give up our 2nd and both 3rds to move into the later 1st to get an OT that doesn't pan out. This draft is pretty deep and we could be passing on 2 legit starters to hopefully get a LT who's better than Oher. That is a big risk.

Oh no, I'm with you there. If there is a guy they know is a first rounder on their board, yeah. I'll trust their judgement on that one. If I were moving into the mid to late first my number one target would be McCaffrey. Our special teams ain't been special in a long time and when Stew hangs em' up we've got Fournette/ McCaffrey. Dave doesn't mind doubling up, this is a combo that IMO would be worth it in the long run.

Remember, Atlanta created their own version of "Double Trouble". We've lost it.

Well if this is the guy they like then they need to do whatever has to be done to get him. I understand there's not many good OT prospects in this draft (same thing said last year and year before) so if you've identified a good one, then you aggressively pursue him.

I'd take this draft with Garcia in it and call it a day  :)
