Franchise tag him. Especially with the draft coming up. I'm not an advocate of drafting DT's high every year but IF Jonathan Allen drops to 8 ... no doubt in my mind Gettleman trips on his way to call the card in.

If this is the going rate for players,  at some point you're going to have to pay them.  He still finished the season a top 3 DT.  

I'm not saying pay him but it is what it is.  I ran into him this summer at the epicenter, I told him I love you on the squad but you gotta get that check man.  He just laughed and said " you already know"

This. Getty did not pay Norman because he play a position that Getty doesn't value. I thought that this team valued lineman? Now as soon as our best lineman and one of the best DT in the NFL comes up you don't want to pay him?

More recently, Matt Cassel was tagged by NE and then traded...same with Jared Allen by KC and then traded to Minnesota. It happens!

Panthers would do right by themselves to keep Addison and all the other linemen and draft Dline this year as well. Move in Butler inside.

 

Solomon Thomas would be a key addition as well. 

 

Would a tag and trade scenario work or do those usually don't? I don't remember it ever working out in the draft?

Bulter hasn't proved that he is worth a 1st round pick.
