You lost me at "he just turned 35"...

Nope. No. Nuh-uh. No way. Don't even think about it. Aaaaah...stop right there, turn around and walk away.

When a free agent player is closer to his first letter from the AARP than he is to his college's Pro Day workouts, then you've got to take a pass. Maybe if it is a one year flyer with a contract high on incentives and low on guarantees for a wideout or a kicker, but that's it. Pass rusher, maybe, if he's already going to be a hall of famer.

Linemen, no. It takes seasons for a team to gel along the offensive line and once a player gets long in the tooth, that drop off can come unexpectedly and quickly. If he wasn't near that point now, the Bengals wouldn't even think of letting him into the marketplace while they are still competitive.

Free agents are like used cars. There aren't nearly as many amazing finds as they say there are... and it is always the salesman (agent) who wants you to not worry about the model year, but look at how it was only a little old lady who drove it only on Sundays to and from church.

Better to grow our own. (And let's not even talk about vet's minimum... he ain't coming here for that and with 13 years of experience, that's going to be a bit steep.)

No one is signing this guy to a long-term big money contract. Wherever he goes, it'll be a for a 1-2 year deal.

At 35, he'd obviously be a stop gap solution.

Oher worries me in that he missed like 13 games after a concussion.  If it were that bad, then re occurrence would seem likely.

My thoughts would be a FA OT, draft an OT, sign Norwell, draft a good center, keep Remmers, who can back up at RT, LT and C

People would be willing to give up draft picks for Thomas or Staley but a short term deal for Whitworth would be stupid? And for those that think Staley is better what are you basing it off of?  Based off of this article he was ranked 2nd, and neither Thomas or Staley were first.

Nobody is saying give the guy a long term deal and if he does start to decline maybe that means he becomes the 8th best tackle next year and the 10th the year after.

What gives us the best chance to have quality left tackle play for the next 2 years?  Whitworth on a two year deal or Kalil on a 5 year deal.
