If Fournette is actually the pick there might be a very good chance that Stewart is cut.  That is alot of cap to be tied up in a back up running back.

Also I really don't understand this idea of a second running back excelling in a complimentary role.  A #2 receiver gets to go up against a lesser cornerback usually so I understand that train of thought, but a backup RB plays against the same defense as the starting RB.  If he is a monster then he should also be if he is the starter.

At most you could make the argument that he is a upgrade over the backup, but in reality our coaches don't even activate a backup for Stewart on game days.  Tolbert is kind of the change of pace big back, Fozzy is the change of pace little back, and I think CAP is viewed as the every down back like Stewart.  In alot of ways Stewart fills the same niche as Fournette.

Well Tolbert should be cut anyway. But the idea is that Stewart would be fresh and we wouldn't be depending on his ankles to be healthy for at least 8 games a year.

We need two RBs capable of making plays. Turning Stewart into a #2 via the draft solves that problem. I'm willing to bet he restructures anyway.

We should get a traditional lead block FB and let Stewart take over the occasional screens that Tolbert screws up and turns into INTs.

I really hope we don't move down from 8. I really want Adams, but logically, I don't see a scenario in which he is available at 8. He's one of those "has it all/low risk/top players" in this draft and could fit a few teams picking before us. If he is sitting there, I see no way in which Carolina doesn't run the card up to the podium lightning fast.

So, of the options that are realistically available, we should be able to select a stud at 8.

Whether it's Fournette, Barnett, Hooker or Allen..... we will get a franchise building block at a position of need. Moving down, IMO, puts us in the next tier of talent.  Though it is still solid, we truly have a chance to land a top tier talent to our roster..... something we haven't had since Luke, and also a draft slot I doubt we will see for quite a few years.

Ya I'd be pissed if we traded down. I think in order for Adams to be there at 8 we need a minimum of 1 QB to go and we need the Titans to value getting a WR (Mike Williams) for Mariota over BPA.

I feel like Garrett is a lock for Cleveland. A QB for SF would be ideal. Chicago is a bit of a wildcard, they need a QB but if Jonathon Allen is sitting there I think they take him. Fournette goes to Jax at 4. Then Tenn/NYJ/SD could really go a few ways.

I'd like to think Williams goes to either Tenn or NYJ. Then you also have these corners that could also go to anyone of these 3 places as well. However, Tennessee can grab a corner with their other 1st round pick so I don't think they take a corner. Maybe the Chargers will surprise people and take Barnett to pair up with Bosa?

Like ive said I'll be happy with any one of Fournette/Adams/Hooker but even at 8 we're going to need some of these teams to go position over BPA

I believe 8 is a great spot, soooooooooo glad they are not drafting at 14th. I mean the worse case, panthers still have options-#1 CB, #1 WR, #1 OT etc. Value is there, to me there's not much difference form #4-#8.

Carolina Panthers Actual Draft:

2016: 1st Round: Vernon Butler

2015: 1st Round: Shaq Thompson

2014: 1st Round: Kelvin Benjamin

2013: 1st Round: Star Lotulelei

2012: 1st Round: Luke Kuechly

Mel Kipers Final Mock Draft (For Carolina Panthers)

2016: DE Ogbah

2015: T Andrus Peat

2014: T Joel Bitonio

2013: DT Sheldon Richardson

2012: DT Michael Brockers

Yeah, we definitely can't rely on Kiper for accuracy.   His concepts sometimes are in-line with possibly "narrowing" it down.  But too many variables goes into the actual draft(Combine, injuries, Pro days, reaches, etc.)

All of you arguing against trading down,  let me propose a scenario.  Let's say the front office likes 4 or 5 players at 8. For arguments sake,  Fournette,  Peppers,  Adams,  Hooker,  and Williams.  Now,  we have them all similarly graded.   Our turn to pick comes and all 5 (or 4/5) are available.   There was a run on CBs,  QBs,  or DTs or something. Why the hell wouldn't we trade down to 12 or 13 and pick up an extra second or 3rd round choice?  We're still guaranteed a player we value.  And we get additional selections.

Not impossible it just seems far fetched and a little unlike us in general.  Cleveland would likely be the team looking to get in front of Cincy, but for who?  And considering they need A LOT of help would it be worth it for them?  And considering we'd fall behind New Orleans we may lose the player we'd prefer if given the choice to them.  The deal would simply have to be unbelievably juicy and I don't think it's likely.  I had originally thought trading back to 10 with Buffalo for their 4th, staying in the top 10 and in front of the Saints was possible, but realized Buffalo doesn't even have their 4th.

The Seahawks thought they could trade back only 3 spots last year and still get a DT they wanted.  Guess what?  The Packers, Cardinals, and us took DT's they wanted and they had to scramble in the 2nd to trade back up for one.

If we're trading down, the best value lies with the Ravens and Redskins at 16 and 17...

Both teams could be looking to trade up to snag one of the safeties or if Foster slides...

If we get one of them to bite, we could end up with picks 16, 40, and 47 or 17, 40, and 49. It would require both teams 1st and 2nd to move up, if you use the common draft pick value chart.

But yeah, if we slide to 16 or 17, we could snag a DE if that is what we want the most. Then we could hope that D'Onta Foreman lasts until 40 (he might not) and take him there. That allows us to pick BPA in the last spot, and come away with (hopefully) three of the top 50 players in this years crop.

That all said, I think we'll stay at 8 and take Fournette if he's there.
