East-West Shrine Game 2017 Player Visits

Recommended Posts

The East-West Shrine Game practices have begun and there could be some interesting mid-late round prospects. This year we have the added benefit of several coaches on the staff of both teams, so I expect us to have an even closer look than usual interacting with players every day of practice.

West Coach

Cameron Turner - WRs

East Coaches

Chase Blackburn - ST

Curtis Fuller - DBs

Sam Mills III - DL

Here is a list of our "interviews":

Gabe Marks, WR, Washington State | Height: 6-0. Weight: 190.

- Strengths: good deep speed but not great, quick rather than fast, not afraid to go get the ball in traffic and run through contact, body control to make tough catches, secures the ball.

- Weaknesses: 4 misdemeanors (too drunk at bar-- intox and assaulted employee), slight body, not elite athlete

Aarion Penton, CB, Missouri Height: 5-9. Weight: 180.

-Notes: short nickel corner, comparable stats to Hargreaves, Alexander, and Fuller from last year, rated a top 5 corner in the SEC in 2015 but the defense is CB friendly.

Antony Auclair, TE, Laval | Height: 6-6. Weight: 254.

- Notes: Canadian, has the measurables, quality run blocker, soft hands.

Sam Tevi, OT, Utah | Height: 6-5. Weight: 300.

- Notes: converted from DL, played both OT spots.

Nate Hairston, CB, Temple | Height: 6-0. Weight: 192.

- Notes: N/A

Quincy Adeboyejo, WR, Ole Miss | Height: 6-3. Weight: 192.

- Strengths: 6'3", projected low 4.4 speed, Stephen Hill replacement

- Weaknesses: played behind talented WRs, low production.

Ashton Lampkin, CB, Oklahoma State | Height: 6-0. Weight: 189.

- Strengths: fluid athlete, good awareness and ball skills, can stay with fast WRs

- Weakness: may have issues with bigger WRs, projects as a #2 or #3

Jalen Robinette, WR, Air Force | Height: 6-3. Weight: 215.

- Strengths: deep threat but not Ginn level speed, burst off the line, quick feet, high points the ball, good body control, excellent blocker.

- Weaknesses: weak at the line in press coverage, refine route running, attitude on the field can come off as nonchalant or lazy, not much experience b/c of offense limitations.

Eli McGuire, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette | Height: 5-9. Weight: 212.

- Strengths: athlete, route runner, low pad level, tough between the tackles, extra level of speed. compares to former teammate kenneth dixon.

- Weaknesses: decisiveness, tempo running, can drop the ball

Can't say I've heard of any of them, but last year Javon Hargrove who no one had heard of turned an amazing Shrine Game week into Senior Bowl injury fill-in invite where he killed it which ultimately ended as him being a high 2nd round pick and a stud rookie DT for the Steelers. Not much NFL talent at this game but there is always a hidden gem or two.

Sam Tevi is an interesting name for us late, though I don't see his name as a drafted person in all 4 rounds of Walterfootball's mock. Here is a list of guys who are mocked from rounds 2-4. I've starred 4 guys who seem to be potential 2nd rounders. I doubt we go OT in round 1.

*Martinas Rankin: 6-5, 302

Antonio Garcia: 6-7, 302

*Julie'n Davenport: 6-7, 315

Forrest Lamp: 6-4, 300

*Dion Dawkins: 6-5, 320

Adam Bisnowaty: 6-6, 305

Taylor Moton: 6-5, 326

*Avery Gennesy: 6-5, 315

Conor McDermott: 6-9, 310

Wow A+ thread this year

RB is unbelievably deep this year, if we don't walk away with an eventual starter, we have failed.

I would love to take a shot late on Sam Tevi or make him one of our priority FA. We have the Utah connection here and we need someone with the size to play tackle.
